An artist showed up at my gig last night, and drew this:

During the first set of last night's gig, I noticed that somebody dancing in the back was also holding a pad of paper and a pen. He was scrawling on the paper even more furiously than he was dancing, and I was pretty impressed to discover that he had managed to draw a portrait of me while he was so animated. After the show he gave the drawing to me - my first portrait! Pretty sweet, methinks.

And to think I was not looking forward to this gig - it was going to be a super late gig for very little pay. But now I've got this, which just goes to show that every gig is a gift.

That's so cool! You've got some album art/website art if you ever need it.

I'd have been very flattered. It's pretty cool. Definitely goes somewhere in the CD booklet.

On the other end of the spectrum...

I once had a balloon artist make a huge Bugs Bunny-looking rabbit (about three feet tall). The kicker was that he also added a huge penis to it with both the bunny's hands/paws wrapped around it, then placed it on the floor directly in front of me.

Still don't know what he meant by it.

Very cool gift from a visual artist to a musical artist.

That thing happened to me decades ago, when I had a short duration gig with a jazz group. The vocalist's friend did pencil sketches of each of us. It's hanging on the wall of my music room, now.

Way better than cell phone pix on a Facebook page, IMO--but then, I'm old school...
