I recently put an ad up on Craigslist looking for just a casual jam since I haven't played with other musicians in nearly three years and had an itch to do so. Well, I got a few replies offering jams but none were ideal (time, location etc) and then I got THE one. A guy who sings and plays guitar gets together with a lead guitarist in my town. Cool. So we get to talking and the material is to my liking (blues/rock, some southern rock and some 90's stuff-Pearl Jam, Soundgarden). I recieve a list of songs they've been doing and promptly get to work on them and decide I'm comfortable enough with them to go for it. I also sent them a sample of my "catalogs" from my two previous bands and we all agreed on what to play through on Sunday.
Wednesday I get an email asking if we were still on. I replied "yes" and asked for the guitarist's address so I could swing by after work to find exactly where it is. Well, no need for that. He lives FOUR HOUSES DOWN THE STREET! Basically this eliminates two problems I had with finding anything in the past-Practice time (Sunday mornings a huge +) and location. Which also falls into the practice time problem. Now, provided we all get along and everyone plays up to snuff this could be a very good situation for me.
Wish me luck!
