Bad bass finish ideas

Is it only a matter of time before somebody starts offering finishes like "goatburst" and "parsleyburst"?

bassistjoe93 12-29-2012 08:22 AM

"Snot-burst," I mean, antigua :p

Hmmm , goatburst , sounds ideal for those chilli-fest gigs.
And if your batteries run out use a potato.

How about a chili finish? It's probably only good for about a day before it'll start rotting, and there's problems with ants, but it'd be cool for a day.

Worst bass finish I can imagine;

POR-15. That satin black textured black stuff used to paint on truck bed liners and cover up rust on vehicles.

I was going to say Herculiner, but I think that's kinda what you're talking about.

Bent rusty nails
Barbed wire
Halfway pulled-out box staples
Razor blades
Hot soldering iron tips
Broken glass

Ha. I actually have a bedliner-pained bass. It's a pointy doubleneck, so it definitely has the "best bass for redneck metal" look. If only I played metal...

GhettoSmurf187 12-30-2012 03:47 AM

Tamponburst.

I once put a finish on a bass that was a porthole to an alternate dimension. That dimension was much more evil then this one, so they'd just reach through and keep stealing my picks. It sucked because I was in an oldies band that required alot of pick work, and I could never find any...

Also, if you didn't hold the bass right, part of your right arm would go into the other evil dimension pick stealers also liked to bite, and not in a fun, sexy way! Sucked. I really don't recommend inter-dimensional portholes as a finish for bass guitars.

Oh, also, my Nuclear Power Plant Toxic Waste finish on a cheap Ibanez bass was a BAD idea. I got skin cancer on my right arm within a month!

I have a EBMM US SUB4 with that kind of finish.
It may not be the prettiest but it is the most durable and it never gets fingerprints all over it. With the old 2 band pre in it it sounds better then the fancy Ray's with the three band.
