Bad Night/Great Set?

Background: I took up bass at the tender age of 55. After going to an open mic to hear some of my friends, I was greeted with, "Where's your bass?". I did not have the ability to follow another musician and am still not there, yet. However, I did start learning songs that I play at open mics as a solo artist.

Last night, I did not really feel like going out, but my music teacher says I should play out often, even if it's the same songs over & over, so I went. I was in a bad mood. Icould not find my cord. Fortunately, I have another. The host passed me over in order, which mildly pissed me off.

My 3 song "set" went over better than ever. What happened? I would have expected a much worse outcome.

For the record, I did my parody of "My Generation", written from the point of view of a retired old fart, "The Old Fart at Play", and "Boris the Spider".
