The bandmates - Gahhh

So... A discussion with the guitarist, keys, and drums on an original song turned into a huge argument. This has to do with setting up the click track.

Apparently, there is no difference between one, two, THREE, four - And ONE, two three, four.

there a pretty big difference there..

but maybe your bandmates where thinking there wasn't, because usualy in that kind of timing you have a strong beat on the 1 and the 3... the rock beat.

but if there is only one strong beat... there is a difference.

Meter

That's understood. That rhythm is kind of important to the song, but they didn't understand.

Of course these accent beats are important, look at any piece of music. If there was no cadence, it would sound like, well, a monotone monologue or a massiverunonsentence.

Geeze, it was frustrating.

Hmm...I've played with click tracks that were just click-click-click-click, with no stress or accents on anything.

Maybe that's what they were trying to achieve.

Just play with feel and ditch the click track. Problem solved.

Were you attempting to record? Recording can be stressful...

Yup

It was a recording session. More correctly, it wasn't a click track, but a drum beat programmed by the drummer. It would take too long to explain why his drum kit wasn't set up. We just had to make do.

The point is, rhythm is extremely important, and it just blows my mind that the drummer, gutarist and keys couldn't fathom the idea. A straight click track would have perhaps been better.

They can't tell the difference with the downbeat/accent? How do the band's non-original, cover songs sound like? Can't you take one of those as your "known good" and say: "like this... like this beat" and then wait for that "ah ha!" moment? I love opportunities to arrange original stuff.. that really feels so great. Click tracks are very helpful in that regard... they have to realize that.
