Angry BASS BATTLE!!!! ITS OOOOON BAYBE!!!!!!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
Ill start this thread by telling tb about myself. I’m currently a high school student. I’ve played the double bass for almost five years now and the bass guitar for about one and a half. I like to think I’ve been learning at my full potential of learning rate, for lack of a better word, when it comes to bass guitar and I’ve learned an enormous amount I believe. There is a cocky guitar player at my school with the belief that he can learn bass better than me in just one month because apparently it is so easy to learn. Mind you my favorite style is jazz bebop and I love doing bass as a melody while I also practice slapping religiously and even do some slap death metal. So I challenged this guy to a bass battle in exactly one month. That was yesterday.
So the issue is…..
we need a set of rules. Who here on talkbass has ever done a bass or guitar battle and has some nice rules to make the battle interesting and effective at showing our skills?
I have found about two or three judges for this event and all are bass players.
Help me out with this and help bass earn a little bit more respect in this world!

Have a bunch of events.

- Perform a walking bassline solo in the key of Ab (or whatever key you want) for 2 minutes.
- Perform the same bassline in multiple keys, say Lean On Me in 5 different keys (D, B, E, Db, G#)
- Perform 2 solo pieces that last approx 2 mins each, using various genres and styles of playing.

Or something along those lines

How To Stage a Bass Battle
Step 1. Pull out c**ks.
Step 2. Compare length.
Step 3. Longer c**k wins.

No, I disagree with all of you, those are all good ideas, but it's simply not a battle of any sort unless you trade 4 or 8 bar solos for a while.

P.S. Unless you are really good at slapping, the guitard is going to beat you because he can play faster and that is all that matters in battles.

NO NO NO SIR!!!!! this is a bass battle there will be no guitars. He thinks he can learn bass better than me in one month. So it shall be bass verses bass. and my slap is fast enough to compete with any cheap/easy tremelo picking. Plus i can do some fairly fast blast beats when it comes to metal with finger picking and i can tremelo with the tip of my finger. the 4-8bar soloing is a good idea too, i think ive seen it before. thank you

I'm going to suggest you guys try different techniques (namely fingers, plectrum and slap). See who is better in each field (surely if you're better than him in two-out-of-three techniques that counts as a win?)

And go along with what's already been mentioned above.

Oh, better still... you mentioned you played double bass for five years previously?

In that case, I have a rather evil suggestion. Have someone give you two different sheet music (that neither have seen before) and see who's better

Whatever you choose to do, do it in private. No one wants to watch two guys wanking.

Seriously now, trading 4's or 8's seems like a good idea. Maybe get a drum machine, have someone set up a nice beat before, then make up a groovin line on the spot. Decide on a piece with the guitard in which you will both play on battle day. Most groovin, swinging-est player wins that portion.

Oh, **** size doesn't matter as much as testical size, because we are the balls.
