I'm not Catholic but figured this could be a fun thread. Feel free to join in and tell us all your bass-playin' sins:

I play slap on my AEB

I often use a pick but have no pickguards

I was a bass player first, although the first stringed instrument I owned was a guitar

I neglect my basses when it comes to regular string replacement

I know there's more... after all, I'm only human.

I'll give it a shot. After all, I was raised Catholic (never believed in it though) so this is pretty familiar territory for me.

Forgive me, for I have sinned...

-I almost never change strings.

-I play a six string bass so that I can play... chords.

-I never learned a single Jamerson bass line.

-When I play "Portrait of Tracy" I almost never play it as it was written.

-Before I was a bassist... I was a drummer.

And probably worst of all...

-I still play that other stringed instrument from time to time.

Please go easy on me.

-I was that kind of players who got the bass because no body wanted (Me neither, i wanted the drums) but forget it, now i'm 100% Bassist in love!

-I've to admit that sometimes i use incorrectly the bridge pickup in some wrong music context, latin music etc..

-i Never clean the bass after a gig where i've sweated a lot! like 3 days later

forgive me for i have sinned

- I carved "zen of anger" into the body of my p-bass
- I neglect changing strings
- I only tune at practice unless I know the tuning is fubared
- I only play with a pick when I'm sitting down.
- I only clean my bass when I change my strings

I think we all need to pray for forgiveness. So here's a little prayer to the mighty creator in the hopes that he may forgive us for our sins.

Hail Leo

Hail Leo, full of soul. The groove is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst musicians,
and blessed is the fruit of thy wisdom, the Bass guitar.
Holy Leo, Father of the Bass,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our gig. Amen.

Say one Hail Leo for each sin you have committed.

I play more with a pick.
I play chords.
I play taps and harmonics.
I play above the seventh fret regularly.
I prefer Manring, Squire, and Chancelor to Jaco, Jamerson, and Miller.
I don't care for Fender.
If it ain't got at least 24 frets I don't want it.
Oh, and I hate the sound of flats.

-I've slapped a jazz ballad bass line
-Played with a pic D:
-never clean my bass unless I'm changing strings
-Have transported my bass in a guitar gig bag (the head stuck out)
-Got really into the music and smacked the head of my old Squier on a crash symbol
-didn't learn how to read bass music until after 2 years of playing bass.

Possibly the worst: defretted a bass with a screwdriver and mallet.

Call me godless but her it goes
*This only applies to my main bass
-I never clean it, there's blood still on it
-I play with a pick
-I smack cymbals with it all the time
-I play chords all of the time
-I break strings regularly
-I only replace thew strings if one breaks.

And the truth is, I couldn't care less if it's wrong. I like it.

Dear Lord of Da Bass

Never again shall I 'surf' my bass on parking lot asphalt

Never again shall I throw my bass carelessly in the air, and as high as I can when overwhelmed by the moment during the last song of a particularly killer set thus cracking the neck apart only to be glued back together and chucked back into the air.

I will try...I will try...

Forgive me father, for I have sinned:

In the privacy of my own home, I occasionally scoop my EQ and like the sound.

I run a sonic maximizer in my effects loop, hidden in the back of my rack.

I am gluttonous with effects pedals.

-I played exclusively with a pick for the first five years. I've been playing bass for six years.
-I used to scorn bassists who walked and felt superior for using a pick
-The first song I walked to was Hysteria, and the first song I slapped to was Undisclosed Desires, both by Muse
-I've written and recorded a short song with three basses playing at the same time, and vocals (no other instruments)
-I restrung one of my basses from EADG to BEAD and messed up the nut.

-One that might be considered a sin in these parts, but is a sin I'm proud of nonetheless, is that I hate Fender basses but love Fender Guitars (Squire included in both cases).
