Bass is the coolest instrument in the HS band!

Went to our town parade today to see my son march. He plays tuba in marching band, but is the bass player for concert band and jazz band. Well to make a long story short another band comes along. While I can't see them yet I hear the drumline banging away. Then they stop.

Next I hear a funky bass line. I'm thinking is someone playing bass in front of their house. NO! Its a little golf cart with a trailer behind it and 2 kids are on it with bandanas and bass guitars. They were the lead for all the music being played. The did long solo's then they went into a journey tune(yuck), but still cool somehow.

Coolest thing was they had big combo amps on this thing and you could hear them outside over the entire band playing AND they get carted around the parade and don't have to march and suffer like all the other kids.

Now to get my kid on a "float" playing bass in marching band. Very cool to give the bass players center stage.

Those guys are lucky. When I march with my bass, I have to carry a terrible, battery-powered Fender "can-amp" on my back, and I only get to double the trombone/baritone part. Although, it sure does beat carrying around the sousaphone like I used to...

You're doing better than me; I got forced to play the bass drum *shudder*

In all seriousness, I have (somewhat jokingly) considered doing the battery pack thing, but I didn't realize that anyone actually did it for real

I envy those guys... I'm stuck with marching with my trombone:P although, when marching season is over and pep band starts up, I'm all over the bass!
