Funny you ask! I start my vacation today! I`ll be heading up to my family`s cottage in Crystal Beach,Canada for about a week. I plan on bringing my `70s Lyle semi hollow body bass. Because this way I can hear myself acoustically and I can also plug in my Vox headphone amp(and maybe a pedal or 2) and rock out to some fuzzed out bass without bugging my family.
And being short scale,it`ll save a little bit of room in the car.

I always bring my Dean hollowbody. No need for an amp, and it takes up so much space my wife has to pack less stuff.

Just got back from Edisto Beach, brought my 13 yr old daughter's Ibanez Mikro. Yes, it's purple and sparkly, but it's small and actually plays (and sounds) not bad at all. Ran it through a small Mackie 2 channel board and my IEM's.

I'm heading off on a short break in a while and my 5er Yamaha is coming with me. It sounds pretty loud unplugged, has the extra B-string for versatility and travels well, even into damp conditions.

Oh Carrots! I hadn't thought to include an acoustic catagory.

Short scales travel well, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with a purple sparkle Mikro.

I have discovered that a full scale hard case will fit in many airline over head compartments and people don't mind because they can put thier stuff on top of it. They do tend to think you are carrying a rifle though.

Yeah, the bass(es) stay home when I'm out of town, vacation or otherwise. Just get a little quality time going for awhile when I get back.

No bass, No carrots!

But if I had to bring one it would be the POS Fender lying in the corner.

It'll be subject to heat, AC, possible bumps, the guy wanting to steal it, etc.

I play more than enough and I really want to do other stuff when on vaca.

If the chance comes up to play I can always beg, borrow, or buy one if need be.

After all, the magic is mostly in my fingers and much less so the bass I'm playing on!

I usually bring an acoustic guitar if it's practical, but otherwise, I never take a bass. In fact, I'm aggressively not taking my bass just to insure that I'm really out of my normal routine.

i havent taken a vacation for a lonnnggg time but if i could bring one with me next time i'd probably bring my 1980 status washburn headless, some what of a smaller guitar. Maybe bring a pedal or two with me to plug into my amp.

All my vacations for the last few years have involved flying, and it's not worth the hassle and worry of dealing with airlines. If we ever drive anywhere again, I'll take the Hofner Icon due to size and weight, and some practice headphones.

None, the point of vacation -for me- is to step away from it all. It's not like I'm going to forget how to play bass.

Now, I have bought things while I was out...

I've been interested in getting a baritone for the last month for the change, I bet it's quite fun to play, especially for chordal/fingerpicking stuff. How does it work out for you, did you have to alter any strings/tuning for it if I may?
