I am not sure about the whole starting a forum just for women thing. Is there a lot of things that shouldn't be shared with the guys? I say just keep it all together.

All I'm saying is there's no reason to go hating on some 13 year old girl you've probably never met because she thought her classical guitar lessons were enough to get her started on bass. That's just callow.
I don't hate her for teaching herself, in fact I don't really hate her at all. I just hate the "bass is easier than guitar" additude (like everyone here does), and it doesn't help that someone so famous is helping to further the misconception. I think that if she was a talented musician like she seems to be, she would know better than that.

The girl from School of Rock actually plays bass! And she's a classically trained guitarist!

Actually, every kid from School of Rock ACTUALLY plays their instrument, and did play what you hear in the soundtrack.

it's true. Though the band that played "No Vacancy" did a HORRIBLE job of pretending they were playing those two songs. Especially that guy "Spider" - he's strumming his guitar when a lead is supposed to be played...ummmm

I think you're reading too much into it. I read it as she'd already learned the guitar, and now she's adapting that knowledge into the bass.

A competent classical guitarist isn't your average six string wanker. I promise she knows the fretboard. So aside from that, what else is there to learn between classical guitar and bass, aside from vocabulary? And why can't she do that on her own?

Saying, "I take lessons on this instrument but not on bass" isn't implying that the bass is any less difficult than some other instrument. It's simply that one lends itself to the other.
