This!

I swear, I hate to even go in there because of it! Shopping at the local store is my first choice. But if they don't have something I need, I'll venture into GC if it's something I need sooner rather than later

It's uncannily accurate. Although the video isn't long enough or loud enough to match the real life experience.

We've got one local Fender dealer left, not counting the local GC store.

That local store will be gone as of the end of this month. Good thing that I'm not all about Fender.

True.Except you'd have to play that video on 5 computers at the same time.

I love to play a basic box shuffle while all thats going on. Makes everyone in the bass room look at me funny.

I've been in various guitar shops (local and otherwise) and I've only ever heard someone slap maybe once or twice, and very briefly. Not defending GC or the slappers, but I have no idea which GC you guys are going to!

Nah... This isn't a rap on GC itself... More the clientele.

Was just in a GC the other day. I was all alone in the bass area and wanted to really
A/B the differences between Fender J and P basses as well as the differences between Fender and Squier. It was unusually empty and quiet so I was excited about the oportunity really listen for some differences. So I grab the basses, plug 'em in and begin playing simple bass lines (who am I kidding, I only know simple bass lines) at a pretty low level for my own ears. Only got about 3 minutes into it when when this mouth breather walks in and plugs in a bass and begins doing the above video at stadium concert audio. I can't hear what I'm doing so I turn and give him a look. The narcissistic idiot gives me a half smile and nods as if to say thanks for the compliment. I just shook my head, unplugged and walked out.

Same thing happened to me with two "regulars" trying to outslap each other at painful volume.
the one dude said "is this botherisng you"? and it was said obnoxiously as an insult to ME!
I was there to buy a bass. They were there to wank.
The sales man asked what I thought of the bass I was playing; I said "I have no idea".
He knew exactly what I meant and took me to a small private room to try out the bass.
From now on, I will go straight to the litttle room of solitude, or no deal.
Fortunatley I rarely need to go to GC..

I tried this method last weekend. I knew for a fact that my local GC had a B:Assmaster in their "boutique" case. I also know exactly where that display case is located within the store. As I approached the display case, I could see the pedal from ten feet out. A GC employee was walking toward that general direction, and asked if I needed any help. I said, "Yes. I would like to pick up this B:Assmaster."

He took it out of the display case, walked five feet to the counter, and then said, "Oh. I'll run in the back and grab the box."

"Okay."

No joke. Ten minutes later he appears with box in hand.

"Okay, guy, I can take care of you now. Sorry for the delay."

"No worries."

"Uh...it looks like all of the registers are busy. Give me a second."

"Okay."

No joke. After five minutes of standing there, no register has opened up. He walks out from behind the counter and begins helping someone else. I was so peeved. I walked out of the store. On the sidewalk, I hear, "Sir!?"

"Yes?"

"I'm sorry for the delay..."

At this point I interrupted him and simply stated, "My wife and son are waiting in the car. I knew exactly what I wanted, where it was located, and this should not have taken more than 10 minutes, tops. I'm sorry, but the amount of time waiting is one thing, but you walking away to make another sale before our transaction was complete is simply rude."

He apologized again. I have no spite for the guy trying to make a sale, but seriously...I getting ready to drop $250(+) on a pedal, and this guy walks away to sell a $50 crap unit to some 13-year kid that detuned the guitar the second he sat down, cranked the amp to 11, and just stomped on the distortion unit.

I was there a few days ago to sell a bass, After they brought my bass in the back room to inspect it I had to wait an hour until the guy was finally ready to go to the counter and make the buy. I went their at 7pm and there was practically no one in there. What can I say, typical day at Guitarcenter

I avoid GC at all costs. I had another bad experience there recently (waiting 20+ minutes to be helped finding a case for my guitar) and they no longer carry the strings I like... no reason to go there again. The poor service/foolish staff are worse than the wankers.

I slap at guitar center all the time for 2 reasons
1. Slapping is fun
2. I can't afford the rigs they have set up so I usually try to get my fill. It's tough using a crappy little amp.

And over pay for their limited selection. Doesn't matter anyway because they are usually closed by the time I get off of work at 5:00 in the afternoon.
