The bass player's DNA - and what he has to do to get a little attention

Sign in to disble this ad
Fellow kings of the four strings,

Ever wondered what a bass player has to do get a little attention?

Here's some thoughts on the different tatics that player employ to get their fair share of the adolation. It's all done in good humour and for the sake of a laugh (and a very brief moment of reflection about which category you yourself would fall into).

I hope you enjoy it:

all in fun, but in reality, more than one famous band's bass player was actually the best guitar player in the group, not the worst, and ended up on bass because he was the only one who could do it.

besides the obvious example of the beatles, legend has it that both mike mills from REM and phil lesh from the dead were the best guitar players in their respective bands at the beginning.

I have nothing against rock music, but this guy seem to be a Rock Bassist! several of his descriptions can be asociated to Rock players, there's a lot of thing that wouldn't happen in Funk, Jazz Fusion music.. ask Hadrien Feraud

It reads a lot like a Bill Anschell vignette.

I can't understand why so many bass players want attention. You can get away with so much more when you fly low.

yeah. i went back and re-read the whole thing. and it reads like a guitar or keyboard player that's had drama with bass players trying to pick a fight. saying stuff like (paraphrasing, not giving the silly little man anymore hits) "get noticed by NOT playing the bass like a bass, chords, solo's, leads" just reads like somebody that got shoved around by people better than him his whole life.

too many swirlies = internet whining i guess.

then...... wouldn't it contain some humor?

i'm not offended. he's just silly. i guess him calling himself a bass player would be the only thing i could find offensive. if i tried.
