hmm... it's a good thing Marcus Miller or the late T-Bone Wolk never saw this post. two of the smoothest hat-wearing bassists around!

...as an aside, many female audience members have commented favorably on my 'driving caps' (like the one in the profile pic) over the years. It's the only hat that truly looks 'correct' on me I think. Methinks the original survey was flawed.

Why does ANYONE need a touque on a hot summer day?
Looks stupid and yes, either your hair smells already or after wearing that thing all day it will smell. Fedoras are another silly hat that the hipster crowd seems to need to be cool.
Won't help your bass playing at all. And it dosen't look cool either. Let the people in the crowd wear them. Just go up there and play your bass. You don't need a hat.
And besides, wearing hats all the time will eventually cause baldness. Unless that is what you are going for..you know, so you can save money on shampoo.

True. They see the helmet instead.

Hey...it worked for Flea at Woodstock in front of, oh, millions of people. That took some balls!

I wear hats on stage about 50% of the time. The only hats that work on me are huge rimmed ladies hats, but I haven't gotten anything but compliments yet.

It may only be me, but I got a strong impression from the thread title that both hats and bass players turn 70% of women off. Not that I exactly needed survey results to know that bass players are the least likely members of the band to get laid...

I would also like to add that I agree on the point of fedoras looking a hell of a lot better on women than on men. They make men look like antiquated, wanna-be mafia pseudo-classy ganster idiots, where as they just look sexy on ladies.

I believe this blog does an excellent job of demonstrating the category of "people who shouldn't wear hats on stage". Or "people who shouldn't try to look classy with a hat in general" for that matter

Fedoras were cool until every other Pick Up Artist started wearing them.

I heard that I resemble Ted Nugent all the time. That show we did where I wore the black cowboy hat especially!

Thanks Jimmy! You made her day!

I wear a hat to keep the stage lights out of my eyes. I am married, so attracting any more females to me is a bit out of the question.

The sunglasses were an extreme case of really bright lights. Normally, it is just the hat.
