I began wearing a wide brimmed hat because I made my living working outside in Arizona. The hat just became a part of my wardrobe.
Do I put some thought into the way I dress? Yes, but only for personal satisfaction. The only time I have any intent to draw attention to myself is when I am performing, but I don't need a hat for that.
Cheers! Quote:

Not just for you, but also for everyone else who posted the same thing.
People do care what others think of them, it's just human nature.
Everyone wants to be accepted!
Accessorizing your appearance with an article of clothing (a Hat) IS a way of drawing attention to yourself.
Really gotta call it like it is......plain and simple, that's how it is.
Oh yeah,
as for the "Keep my head warm" or "keep the sun out of my eyes" guys,
save your breath.
That argument is like Michael Jackson saying he wore the sparkley glove while performing to keep from getting splinters in his hand. |

If anybody's seen the tumblr blog "Fedoras of OKCupid," you'll know what I mean. For those that haven't, imagine a collection of dating profiles put together by strange-looking men who have convinced themselves that having an unusual hat is an acceptable subsitute for a personality.
Not to say that people shouldn't wear hats on stage - but they ought to give it a good, long, critical look before they decide to.

Everyone cares what others think. | I wear a hat...I sweat alot on stage and headgear keeps the sweat out of my eyes. I gotta say though...I couldn't care less what strangers think as it relates to my appearance. Every person in the club could come up to me and tell me I look stupid in my hat and I'd still wear it the next show.

Your white shirt white hat, looks freaking awesome. I am from a different genre, but if I could make that outfit look as good, I wouldn't hesitate. Did someone say supafly?

Seriously, I don't care what others wear, but the "bass player in a hat" thing has been played out.
It's pretty much a stereotype anymore.
here's a thought...... want to be different? Don't wear a hat while playing! |

Everyone cares what others think. | I disagree. I get my sense of belonging and acceptance from the level below - my family, my friends, and musically, the rest of the group. The issue of playing out on stage is related to esteem, respect and confidence. Again, all things that have little tie-in with what some person you don't know thinks. Your last statement may be true, but you've misplaced the level and source.

People that wear fedora/pork pie hats look goofy as hell. Let me be honest, it DOES NOT MAKE YOU LOOK COOL. Maybe it makes you look like Dick. Which is a guy that I know down the street, mods (Wink-wink). Unless your're Marcus Miller, or Bugsy Siegel, of course.
Baseball cap? Cool. BUT, it depends on the venue/type of show. I wear one 75-80% of the time. I've played sports my whole life. Still do on a regular basis. And, no. I have a lusciously way, way full head of hair. So, don't go accusing me of coverin' somethin' up that I don't want to be seen. |

Seriously, though, I just wanna keep the stage lights out of my eyes. The grey hair and psycho hillbilly beard generally destroys any prospect of pulling tail at the gig anyway, and I'm fine with that. I've got better at home
