When i ~12 years old, I dreamed that I got to jam with Jason Newsted and play with him at my family reunion. It kinda kick started my drive to pick up bass.

I've been having 2 reoccurring bass dreams

The first is I'll hear an amazing riff or an amazing bass part. It's good, articulate, original, and has great tone. I'll wake up.....and forget it. It pisses me off so much, many times have I started my day in a fit of rage

Second is I'll dream that I just went out and bought some really nice equipment (basses/amps) and I just brought it home. I can't wait to play it, all dream long. My excitement builds and builds and builds....and i wake up. I never get to play the bass. I always wake up. Funny thing is, after I've woken up, I STILL THINK I got new gear and will run downstairs hoping to play my new ric or Spector

I also have occasional run-ins with Zakk Wylde, Vinnie Appice, and Geezer butler. Except my f*cking brother always wakes me up and ruins it. Every time. Like clockwork.

I guess I truly am a tortured soul.

I told my girlfriend about my dream and she made a comic out of it.
Essentially, I have to slay the beast (my misses) with my "axe".

Like a lot of people have been saying, I too have had dreams of just blazing through an epic solo on stage like it's nothing. Those are always nice.

I've also had dreams where hot chicks are, for some reason, super-interested in bass, and have me teach them. I had a similar dream, once, where one of my friends was interested in learning and so I got down to teaching her (not all that odd, considering I have actually done that before with her) and it was going crazy-well. My dream covered like 4 months or so of regular intense training and she'd progressed far. I woke up and started getting ready to go chill with her when I realised she was out of town and we had only had plans to chill in my dream- that's how real it seemed. It was honestly kind of weird having to accept that everything that happened in my dream, which, as I said, covered a vast amount of time, never actually occurred...took a while to sort it all out

That same thing happens to me when I'm awake. If I think about some gear long enough I can actually convince myself I have it (obviously I know I didn't actually get the gear, but I get all giddy as though I did anyway, haha). I've walked into the room actually expecting to see my new Ric sitting out on a stand. Same thing in other instances too- one time I was super stoked because I just had a sit-down with Chris Squire (I never a sit-down with Chris Squire...)

I vaguely remember some dreams where a bass played a role.

One is drinking among the audience after a gig, then getting warned by someone that a guy took off with my bass.
What follows is going after it, searching through places where i hung out in my youth, meeting with a mixture of people, some of them had already passed away.

Another one is being on stage where it can go two ways;
-good, just a gig, the band plays as it should.
-bad, some problem occurs, if it's not a broken string or a pickup failing, it's someone from the audience that causes a stir or starts a fight.

A dream that kind of surprised me, was being on stage with a bass that I hadn't played for over a decade, because it got wrecked. And then enjoying it because everything was fine on it,
no failures or hassles.[this dream might be a underlying reason for buying a later version of my first bass]

Had another one: dreamed I was packing up at a gig and wondering whether or not we would get paid before I left. (It comes from being in the host band for a blues jam---we never know when we'll get paid while packing---but the dream was about a different gig).

I have had a reoccuring dream over the years that I am back in high school playing in the gym with my rock band. Then I noticed that I am playing naked and panic sets in.
Then I wake up. Might take a shrink to figure that one out.

BTW, your girlfriend's art is very good. She should be doing album covers.

not sure if i dreamed I was playing , but i have woken the wife up a ton of times practicing my finger picking technique on her face. you would think I could play better with all that practice. I can never remember doing it , but when i wake up and she is out on the couch , I know I was practicing the night before in my sleep. She will often ask me what song I was practicing because it was either a fine touch or really aggressive. i have heard of restless leg syndrome, but restless picking hand syndrome has to be a first

If you had a sweatsock on , I would say its a latent want to play in the Red Hot Chili Peppers, or you wanted to play with them at woodstock

Cool idea for a thread! I had a bass-related dream not too long ago. I dreamed that I had moved into a loft space with a drummer and a keyboardist. One of them had a bass that belonged to their ex-girlfriend who had recently moved out from the place. The former couple must have split on bad terms because she wanted nothing to do with him and had left a bunch of things, including the bass. The guy offered the bass to me, but I accepted it only on the condition that I would take care of it until I found its original owner and returned it to her. The bass was a black Fender Jazz with a tortoise pickguard and rosewood fretboard.

I had a dream just yesterday... well a nightmare...

I dreamed i came home from work with my girlfriend for some reason and my sister had cut up my brand new stingray into building blocks and was using them to finish building the wall that was in the basement (currently doing a lot of renovations) and i ran around my house for about 20 minutes just freaking out...

long story short, i cried... and the most irritating thing was no one cared that it had happened

My mom was like "oh don't worry she'll put it back when shes done" and my girlfriend was even less supportive with "Just get another one"

then i woke up and i had to make sure my bass was still safe hanging on the wall... Very frightening

I just had another one. Fell asleep listening to an Anberlin album, the result was Baloo singing background vocals, the snake from The Jungle Book on drums and The Chestier Cat from Alice in Wonderland was singing lead and playing double bass.

When I wasn't getting as much time to practice and was really stressed and sad about it, I kept dreaming about bad things happening to my bass: theft, vandalism, etc. It was weird!

Sometimes I have a dream where I'm playing lead guitar in a band for some reason (I don't even play more than a few chords on it anyway) and the band is playing an amazingly epic song, and there's a huge build up, and the guitar solo starts -- and I look down and my bass in in my hands.

Just 3 nights ago, dreamed I was playing a show at a truckstop casino for a rowdy biker gang, playing pinball wizard on a bass with only one string, Pete Townsend style. Since I realized that I would never make a decent living as a bass player, I had also brought my lawnmower so I could cut the grass for extra $$$. Sad but true that I am much better at yard work than music.
