Bassists Who Drive Manual Club!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey! After seeing the Volvo and VW clubs here, I thought I'd make a new club!

This is a club for bassists who like to be in control of their vehicle (much like we are in control of the band )

So, if you won't settle for anything less than three pedals, stand up and be counted! I'll try assigning numbers. If you could list what it is that you drive with a manual trans; and as always, pics are welcomed! I'm a bassist and a car geek, so I thought I'd see who else is like me!

I'll take #1 with a 2004 Mazda3 hatch. It's my Dad's car; however, it's got me hooked. I don't own a car right now, but when I do, it'll be a manual for sure!

I guess I'll be #2. An '06 Scion xB that I bought new. With fold down rear seats, I can haul fridge (Ampeg 8-10), head, bass/case, travel bag and still have a little room left over. I'm 59 and most of my friends see it's 5 speed and say "Aren't you getting a little old for that?" Not a chance. My first car was a '64 Corvair Monza with the unusual 3 speed in the floor. Nearly half of all of the cars that I've owned have been 3, 4 or 5 speed shifters.

Welcome to the club! Yeah, I'm 19, and when I tell my friends I want to drive manual only, they say "wait, you actually have to shift it yourself??" The only way to drive IMHO.

'04 Toyota Matrix Xr here. Hold down the rear seats, lift the hatch and I can load my Epi 610-UL2, bass rack, monitor rack, gigbag, NS EUB in a bag, mic stand bag, and double bass bag. Room left over for ice chest.

Five-speed manual and about 28 MPG, even loaded that heavy if I stay under 70 MPH.

My wife's kia rio(no, I do not have a picture of that) is a 5-speed and my ride is a 6-speed yamaha wr250x. You can tell why I don't have an 8X10 now or in the foreseeable future.

I'm British, so that pretty much qualifies anyway as hardly anybody drives automatic around here.
Currently using my first car, a 1998 Toyota Starlet

Welcome to the club! You're lucky; over here in the US, something like less than 10% of new cars are sold with a manual trans. For me, manual is all I want to drive. Rental cars and drivers' training cars are exclusively automatic aka lame.

Consider yourself lucky!

'91 Miata 5 speed. Have had many stick shift vehicles....likely to always have one for the fun.

Have horse traded a lot of amps to get one that fits. For the record, Markbass 121P and a bass fits nicely in a Miata.

Never owned an automatic car, and don't plan on starting anytime soon. Nothing like being able to open it up and really enjoy the drive home from work on a Friday afternoon!

I prefer automatic transmissions in some cars and manual in others. Luxury cars should always be automatic. Sports cars should be manual.

Nosir, I don't like it. It's too hard to have one arm around the girlfriend, eat a hamburger, talk on the phone and manage a drink all at the same time if you've got to be futzing with that silly shift lever. Of course when I was a kid, I taught the girl how to shift for me, so I had it covered.

With regards to automatic: That's not driving, it's steering.

I've owned only one car that was automatic. Would never get another if given a choice. Currently driving a 2003 Passat 5 speed with 130k on the odometer - and loving it.
