Another local doctor and I are in a band with four other people. We've been established in our area for the last five years. Our local hospital found out about another band with some other doctors, and they've organized a Battle of the Doctors Bands for this Friday night.
The hospital has turned this into a fund raising event for some charity they are promoting. There have been advertisements in the local newspaper and on the radio. I went to the hospital today, and three doctors and two other hospital personnel asked me about, "the big night, Friday night." I can't believe the hype this thing has been getting. When asked if I were nervous for The Battle of the Bands, I said, "Yes. In 1981 when I did Battle of the Bands in high school."
It should be a goofy fun time, but I never thought I'd be in a Battle of the Bands a month before my 48th birthday!
Side note: It's at a venue we normally play, and it was going to be our gig night anyway at this place. So as it turns out, we're still getting paid our usual rate. The rest of our band would not do it if we weren't paid, and I don't blame them.
The new band will play the first set, then we do our first set. The 'winner' is the band that sells the most drinks (I think) and gets the most tips (all to be donated to the charity). So it's a popularity contest. After that, we will finish the night with a third set by us. Maybe we'll make it a power jam with everyone involved.
I'll let you know what happens... if anyone is interested.

At 40 years old, if I had the chance to do something like that (high school battle of the bands themed gig), I'd be all over it. Especially for charity of some type. I actually really do enjoy charity gigs, probably the most.
Sounds like a good time and it should be really fun!
Keep us posted.

And top it all off with those jeans tucked into a pair of Reebok high tops with the laces all undone.........
C'mon......you know you had a pair of shoes like that........

C'mon......you know you had a pair of shoes like that........ | Actually, the parachute pants and Reebok with the laces undone was college for me (1984-6ish). I graduated high school in 1983. The appropriate shoes for the "preppy uniform" were brown Sperry Topsiders.
Funny. The Sperry Topsiders are popular again today. My two daughters bought a pair for me. The only time I wear them is when I know they are going to see me in them. |

- The Verve's "The Drugs Don't Work"
- Feargal Sharkey's "A Good Heart (is hard to find)"
Oh, and the classic "Dr. Feelgood".

They are playing mostly classic rock. We are doing a mixture of rock, disco, country and pop. About half of our stuff is classic and half is current stuff. (Current meaning within the last five years) |
