Mind you, asking a girl with no musical experience whether to buy a P or Jazz is a more or less ridiculous idea, but when it comes to stuff like finish, pickguard, hardware colour, etc, some people are better at judging what looks good or not (from the general view of society).

People with style would also take the general look of the guy into consideration, which she did. I guess some guys on here just think of girls with a sense of fashion as bleach blonde, pink wearing bimbos that love pink "girly" basses. Looks and image is a big part of performing and looking good with a nice fitting bass can make the appearance of a band much better. Isn't there already a couple of threads complaining over bands that don't plan together on what to wear on gigs?
Yeah, I think the OP's concept has merit...

Just buy a P bass, sunburst with a black or tort pickguard.

They look good with everything.

I tried this once, and she suggested the guitar pictured here in the first few photos.

I bought a Spector instead....

Without getting into a philosophical debate about how one must eventually free onesself from the judgment of others to be truly free...

And the frequency of ground earth pklima has a good thought:

The better looking bass player will win the "hearts and minds" over the "choppiest" one - for the masses. We still live in a cognitively simplistic world where folks judge on first appearance...

As mentioned, interaction with the opposite sex is recommended at any and all opoortunity, even if its a rhetorical question about your next bass....

Caution: the tastes of young woman can change on a montly basis, so today's yes answer may be tomorrows YUCK!

Have seen many modern players "dressed" in old skool sunburst with white guards ( a look I dont care for) - which tells me they've not asked their GF's.

I mean Bootsy's basses used to ATTRACT GF's, so you know.......

Before you buy a bass talk to a pretty girl. Might be your last chance.

I always ask my wife- whom I find extremely attractive as well as a very snappy dresser- how a bass looks on me. It's usually *how does this one- that I already own- look w/this outfit* as opposed to *should I get this one or that one* and no more than half-serious at the most. Still, OP has a point. Most importantly, ML 177/177A.

agreeee

Im an art student at a fashion University, and I totally agree with this! BUT NEVER ASK A POLISH PERSON. they're the most unfashionable people every! they still wear shell suits!

but yes, a cool bass is always important! its got to look good for the people that dont know about them!

This is one of the reasons I chose my fender over an ibanez or an g&l. and the colour (sunburst) is easy to mix with clothes!

Another thought: No one notices the bass player anyway.

The above likely being true a viable solution would be to ask many pretty girls their opinions over a long time span.

The last show we played I used my newly acquired SR4 . Black cherryburst , matching headstock , maple neck , killer bass. The guitarist wife noticed I had a new bass and I assumed it was because of the awesome tone I was getting. Turned out it was because the stage lights were reflecting off the chrome control plate.
