Bro. I have a slew of uglier shirts than the one in my profile. I wear them with great pride. When I was working, my daily attire was Levis and a Hawaiian shirt. I tried to set an example for my employees. I donned the monkey suit only for client meetings.

Probably the most entertaining thread I've read in a while.

If those are the type of women that pklima has giving him advice/attending shows/singing and performing/et cetera and so forth, then any sort of interaction with some eye candy like that is worth it. As long as its a few of the ones you like and not something from the Daisy Rock catalog, then your good

I honestly can't see a woman liking, for example a Bongo or a Carl Thompson, which I think both are flipping cool. If you were to ask my wife, she will tell you my P bass looks boring and my Musicmaster looks like a squatting midget.

My gf thinks all basses are boring... heck the only instrument she is interested in is the violin. and my doghouse doesn't count as one apparently.

tl;dr there goes my future sparkle shell pink bass project. :/
nah, I'd rather be happy.

If I have the opportunity to talk to a pretty girl before buying a bass, I will make the sales person wait. I really don't care what she thinks, but it is still fun to talk to her.

It's good to talk to a pretty girl before you buy a bass.
Of course, it's good to talk to one afterward also.

I can't really think of a time when it's bad to talk to a pretty girl.

He speaks the truth!
And then you keep asking the next girl and the next girl and the next girl and....

That's one way to wake up one day and have a LOT of basses.

No no, Im the opposite, I DONT talk to the pretty girl (my wife) before buying a bass. It just shows up secretly and if questioned, I say "that bass? Ive had that for a long time! You just never noticed! Hey, have you lost weight?"

Badda bing problem solved

Ive occasionally asked non-musicians what they think about the looks of certain basses, but its never been a deciding factor. In the end, i like what i like and no amount "fashion theory" is going to affect that.

Yeah. There's definitely a reason why I recommend asking somebody who's not close enough to you to care how much you spend.

I have laughed at this thread for days. Nobody here ever lets "looks" figure in when they buy a bass; its all about tone and playability. All those fancy wood tops, custom colors, tort guards, etc., - they just make the bass sound better. In our fit and finish QC debates, cosmetic issues never figure into the picture, because cosmetic issues don't affect tone or playability. Bad neck pockets affect tone - everybody knows that.

Keep up the good work, talkbass. We don't need to pick one side of the fence; that is what gates are for.
