Best. Curtain. Speech. Ever.

So, in the theatre pit before the show, many of us are texting to each other on our phones. Yesterday, I was texting to the second keyboardist, who had just gotten an iPhone. Aside from asking him how he likes it, and if he's figured out any cool things, I sent him a link to check out.

NON-STOP NYAN CAT!

It should be noted that at no point did I tell him to click on it, turn the sound way up or anything. I had assumed that like myself, he had his iPhone on vibrate.

Halfway through the curtain speech, when the Artistic Director is going over the usual "please turn off your cell phones" speech, I find out that not only did the keyboardist click on the link, but his volume was up. All the way.

The Artistic Director stops in the speech, turns around to look down into the pit, and the keyboardist is holding the phone, trying to deaden the sound. This obviously doesn't work, and after about 30 seconds, he finally composes himself and turns it off.

While it was totally unintentional, I can't say that I didn't think it was the funniest thing I've seen/heard all week.

They're about to do an experiment.

Cats always land on their feet

Toast always lands butter side down

So...what happens if you strap a piece of toast to the back of a cat?

Will it hover?

You guys obviously have exquisite taste.

So tonight during the curtain speech, the Artistic Director gets to the same spot, and then looks into the pit and very loudly says "We're good tonight?" to the keyboardist. It was another little bonus for the evening.

Times like this I'm glad our director is a lighthearted, easygoing guy...

I would think it would spin at an infinite rate, burning a hole in the fabric of reality and letting the Great Old Ones in.

OW! QUIT IT! I'm laughing too hard HAHAHA.

That alone might have been worth the price of admission to the show. And the sequel? TOO much!

It was pretty awesome, and one of those things that I couldn't have planned if I'd tried. I did attempt to console the keyboardist the first night, telling him that due to the timing, the people probably thought it was staged (I mean, it IS in a theatre after all, right?).

And if you're curious, the Artistic Director didn't mention anything about it tonight, which made the keyboardist happy. Everyone else in the pit still made sure he had his phone on silent, though.

Apparently, upon observation, the Cat will poop rainbows.

Great story, OBM!
