Best and Worst Pawn Stories

Sign in to disble this ad
Let's hear 'em!

Did you get an awesome deal? Did you basically give away something you regret pawning? Did you pay a ridiculous price for used gear?

I haven't been to a pawn shop in a while but there is always a good(or depressing) story...

I have one of each!

Just bought a Kramer NT for £100! Awesome deal

And about 18 years ago I bought a Yamaha Pacifica for £200 and sold it to a pawn shop 7 years later for £30 when I was broke

Cool

I recently decided to start a pedalboard, and I wanted a tuner
upgrade...
So I sold my 4 year old behringer racktuner (pile-o-crap!)
for $30!
They'll be lucky if they ever sell that thing

A friend once told me about a co-worker who was about to pawn a bass because he needed money. My friend brought it over to my house the next evening and said the guy wanted $120 for it. It was a 1976 Precision!! I gave my friend $120 and said "Offer him $100 to see if he takes it. If not, give him the $120."

He took the $100...and I let my friend keep the other $20

Years ago , I lost all of my bass equipment to a pawn shop due to drugs and gambling. Now, I have more stuff than a music store and don't go near drugs, gambling or pawn shops.......

I just bought a Mesa PowerHouse 4x10 cab in a pawn shop for 350.00. Near mint shape. Not a bad deal.

Best - Year Unknown MIM Fender Jazz Bass. Slight rusting on the chrome hardware, sounded great. $100

Worst - Year Unimportant Cheapie Standell P/J Combo, bought soley because I had extra cash and really liked the color. Bad neck dive. $100

Same shop, too!

About 2 years ago I bought an Alembic F2B preamp in a pawn shop for $20. It was not pretty but I did okay on it.

BTW, I'm going to Vegas soon, and I'll be stopping by Gold and Silver Pawn to pick up my Chumlee T-shirt. I'm going to take my WWII voltmeter along to see how much they'll give me for it. It even works.

Munji, I hope to see you on television in the future. Youre odds will increase if you enter the store as an unusual character, carry yourself in an odd demeanor, or speak with an almost indecipherable dialect.

Good luck. I've heard there are long lines just to get in, and Rick and the other folks on the show are rarely there.
