Talking Biggest Gig Yet...

Sign in to disble this ad
My band is putting on an outdoor show with another band tomorrow and it looks to be the biggest thing we've played yet. It will be the first time we use our PA system and the first time i'm using my Jazz V and i've got a good feeling about it. Only thing is that there's a chance of rain, but even then there's an open hall close that we can set up in. It'll be our longest set to date and we'll be debuting a good bit of songs. Any thing to remember for outdoor/longer sets? Wish me luck!

Congrats! A coupla things: any chance you can do a run-through with the new equipment before the live gig? Even in a limited space? Debuting new stuff like that can be fraught with peril, so any preperation you can do will help a lot.

Stay hydrated. Drink lotsa water before and during the gig.

Stay loose. It's just music, and even in the worst musical trainwreck in history, nobody even so much as broke a nail.

It'll feel like nerves, but that's just the energy. Channel it and use it. Ride the wave and have fun!

...and don't forget that outdoor gigs need lots more amplification, so bring all of the thunder that you can.

Update:
Bad weather, so we had the event in the hall. Still a pretty great show. Aside from a fair bit of screwups on the acoustic/vocalist's part, it went really well. Had a good overall mix besides vocals being a tad low. Played half the set with my Jazz V and switched to my Cort P 4-string, i noticed i'd become so used to the 5er that the 4 felt really tiny and light. Four pounds does make a difference!

We opened with a bass-drums-guitar version of 'Chameleon' and the organizer introduced everything and we went on with the set. In all, we played 14 songs so it was about a 50 minute set. We ended with 'Take It All' by Hillsong and we killed it!(In a good way!)
I'll post some pics as soon as they get to me.

See? "Don't forget to bring a towel" ended up being the best advice.

I see that you're Flatwound club #.132: are they on the Jazz V? Nice gig!

Yep. Great tone out of them. I've not used any rounds at a show ever btw. I've got a Cort four-string that's got tapewounds right behind me. You'll see it when i get some more pics.

'Take it All'! Yeah! It's a great song, and not as cheesy as 'All Day'

Sounds like you had a great time! I hope the audience was blessed by your band.

By the way, IMO church worship sessions aren't usually 'gigs'. When I do have one, I like to refer to it as 'I'm leading worship' or something like that. I don't know, it's just my preference. lol

What other songs did you play?

It wasn't a service. Just a few hours of music. I would've said that we were leading worship if we had any kind of speaker there.
Complete list is-

Chameleon
Blessed Be Your Name
New Creature*
Come Together
One Way*
All Of Eternity*
God Of Wonders
Breathe
Dedication*
Heart Of Worship
Grace Like Rain
Glory To God
Happy Song
Take It All.

Hey, I've got the exact same amp (Peavy TNT 130, from '86!).
Congrats on your gig!
