Is The Black Bass Player Stereotype True?

Well lots of people say if Black people are going to play an instrument its going to be the bass, I find it funny that I am Black, and the first instrument I chose was the bass! Not trying to say the stereotype is true but what do you think?

I think I've heard wonderful players of all colors...and not so good. It's what's happening on the inside. Music is color blind.

Of course its true. Didn't y'all hear Token rip it up when he first picked up a bass on South Park? Trust me, I'm white and the first instrument I went for was an accordian

There are plenty of black bass players, guitar players sax players, keyboards, drummers....
It is whatever music speaks to you that helps you choose.

All I know is... If I was asked to quickly list of my favorite bassists, my top 12 would likely only include 3 caucasian performers.

Plus, I couldn't dance to save my life.

You chose the wrong "black bass player stereotype" to ask about. Had you asked if black bass players have rhythm, well, that one I could get behind!

Yeah, the stereotype..... Yeah.....

It's because we're all surprised they're as good as they are since they aren't black.

I've always seen black bass players as Slapping Funk Gods with excellent weather. Bootsy, Marcus Miller and Vic Wooten come to mind, along with Prince who has done the scattered bass line.

But stereotyping is not right be what ever you want. I love mold breakers who are nonconformists
