I guess this goes here....
But Bootsy Collins is playing at this little club, which in my experience is a little cheaper than other venues, and the tickets are $81. In a highly diverse, blues and rock city, at the cheapest of the venues, he is charging $81. I thought it was a little bit insane, but I guess not seeing that there is only 8 seats left
BTW- If you don't catch it, I live in Houston, Texas
Thoughts?
Thanks
Edit: Suppose I shouldn't be bitching, seeing as I just got 2 free tickets. But it still seems crazy to me.

A smaller club means fewer ticket sales so, in that respect, it makes sense for the ticket prices to be higher. Of course, smaller venues also tend to cost a whole lot less to rent than bigger venues. Again, hard to comment on the "sanity" of such ticket prices without knowing what Bootsy's overhead costs are. In any event, I'd much rather see Bootsy up close in a small club than in a large theatre any day! |

Unfortunately, the venue will be considerably bigger than what you're talking about... |

If he had charged $5/seat, he would earn $5 * num_seats, and sold out.
Charging $81/seat, his profits are up, and still sells out.
Charging $200/seat, he may not sell out, and lots of empty seats make people wonder "why'd I pay so much?"
Overall, with only 8 seats left and some time to go, he made the right decision, and got the perfect venue. People get to see the performer up close (instead of needing opera glasses) and by filling the venue it gives the impression of lots of happy grooving people, telling their friends about the great packed show.
The pricing of tickets is a delicate game, weighing profit vs number of attendees vs potential exposure.
For me, $81 is steep for a show, but still well within reason.

Worth every penny, and better than any funk act that's been through Colorado in the last 5 years. He went all out for this tour and brings allot of performers; and bass cabs...so many bass cabs! It was too much fun for a Monday night, so hard to do work the next day.
Wait till you see who he brings with him, If I paid $50 for each alstar in this group I'd lost double the cash your complaining about. |

It basically balances the supply and demand to optimize ticket price on the fly. Not sure if they are using it here, but maybe?

I hope it is a great show. The man is somewhat of a walking legend in his time and is truly one of a kind, at least his persona!

Sloppy, zero energy, bad sound... total waste of time and money. IIRC Bootsy was not in the lineup at that time. |

I can't remember a single person not shouting or smiling. The line up is ridiculous! He kept fans in mind big time for these shows. Wait till you see who is on stage with him...

Bad mix, and Bootsy's tone kinda sucked, when he played in the lower range you could only feel it and when he played in the higher range it was piercing and annoying.TM was on stage more than Boosty, Bootsy barely showed off his chops, TM did show off a bit more (and his tone was good, but he was a little quiet), they had about 2 bass players playing at any one time which sucked for the mix, the band was too big... I could go on.
I must say, THEY PUT ON A HELL OF A SHOW! Not $81 worth, maybe like $31. I had a load of fun, and prolly wouldn't have even noticed these things if I wasn't paying attention to all of those things (which I think non-musicians wouldn't notice that stuff), especially all the bass stuff.
I was the youngest person there, prolly by 7 years. And I had multiple people come up and asked me what I knew about Boosty (cause my dad obviously wasn't into it), and so I told them I played bass and was a huge fan.
Fun night, but thank God I went for free. |

| | | | I have a friend that paid $250 a seat to see U2 at the Oakland Colliseum this past week. That is insane IMHO.
I'm going to see Bob Dylan and Leon Russell in August for around $35 (for the cheap "lawn" area in the back). That is a price I can agree with. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
