Breaking things with your bass...

The other night i broke somthing with my bass...

It was friday and i was with my band jamming. We were playing for whom the bells toll and i was getting pretty into it. Well as we reach the last part of the song i swing the head stock of my bass up into the air and start to bring it back down rather fast and then there was a loud bang. I had hit the light rack above me. It fell to the ground and ended up being the last note of the song. My bass was fine. It was kinda epic now that i think about it

Any other cool stories of people breaking things with there bass?

I broke the light bulb on the garage door opener in my ex guitarists garage about 4 times, I eventually bought him a new pack of bulbs cause I was starting to feel bad after the umpteenth time. The garage was super packed with crap and maneuvering through it was a pain, so I would have to fanagle through the mess while holding my bass up to avoid it getting dinged up, much to the dismay of the lights.

I've almost broken a bone in my hand when my Ibanez fell on it tuner first, does that count? If not then i've broken a few pint glasses, a mic stand or two possibly.

I almost broke something once........the back of my guitarists head! Not on purpose (although I'd like to sometimes).
Tiny stage, and we both moved rather quickly at the same time, and thwack!!!
Thankfully it was between songs as his scream wasn't directly into the mike. But I didn't have my volume down, or strings muted. Holy Crap. I scared just about everyone in the place!

I was thumping around one night a bit tipsy and decided to jump ontop of my combo amp. I landed on the front part, which cased it to rock forward...and as I fell on top of it all my bass headstock went thru my bedroom window. I found two things out that day: 1 land on the middle of the speaker cab/combo amp, and 2 plastic wrap is not a good window replacement.

Somewhat also related, one time I got in a fight with a dude over some chicks (long story) which was fine and dandy, I won but ended up with a fairly nasty black eye. No big, except for the fact that the next day I had a job interview, and the day after was my grandmas birthday. Told both that I had a freak accident with the headstock of my buddies guitar...
Didn't work. I didn't get the job and nobody believed me at my grandmas birthday, except for my grandma, man I miss her, sweetest lady ever... [/downer post]

It was our singer right at the beginning of a song, Power chord slap swinging the bass just as he jumped back. BAM!! down he went, Jumped right back up did the rest of the set with with blood running down the back of his head.

Needless to say I bought all his drinks that night and play stage left from now on.

I lost my cool and cracked two of my lead singer's cousin's ribs when he smacked my fiance's butt and said she was cute for trying to play in a rock band. I basically just cold-cocked him in the side with my 5-string.
what she ended up doing to him is a bit too graphic for TB though... rug-doctor carpet shampoo-ers work pretty well on blood stains if you get it before the blood dries...

Broke all four of the glass globes in the chandelier of my practice room. Not all at once, but over time. I was just taking my bass off, that's all, and that chandelier is too low anyway. Now, it has just one bare light bulb in it, one of those curly ones. Looks stupid.

In one of my old bands, we would practice in our drummer's basement. One time I was taking my bass off, and as I lifted it over my head, I tapped one of those glass ball light fixtures. It cracked a little bit, but stayed in place.

An hour later, we hit a big heavy breakdown, and the globe fell off and shattered on my head. It was pretty light glass, so it didn't really hurt, but it was freaking hysterical.

Accidentally stuck the neck of my '79 Fender P in between the blades of a moving ceiling fan. My 10.5 lb workhorse was unscathed, while the ceiling fan took a beating.

Taylor acoustic guitars...not broken, but lot's of scratches. My main bass (a Peavey p-bass) seems to be a magnet for them. I don't know why, but if I'm playing with someone who has a Taylor...it's on. I don't even have to move...they come to me. I've nailed quite a few Taylors. My Peavey doesn't seem to mind any other brands though, just Taylor guitars.

Playing a floor level gig with no barrier I once used the headstock of my ESP LTD F104 to help encourage a patron not to touch our sexy female singer. (The F-104 model has a sharp point on the headstock and little contact area for striking).

Hitting him square in the solar plexus with such force was accidental and resulted in him dropping to his knees instantly. I think I broke him for a minute there as he caught his breath.

One night during a show I decided to try the trick where you swing your bass around your body and catch it on the other side. So I grab the body of my american fender jazz with both hands and throw it counterclock-wise around me. As it was coming around the otherside I than realized I wear my strap too long/bass too low and that the neck would hit the stage.... I than jump in the air with all my might but I couldn't jump high enough or I timed it wrong and sure enough the bass neck hits the stage with a very loud and amplified 'Thwump'. I ended up snapping off the tuner for my G-string and now my jazz has one oddball tuner.

A trombone player swung his hand and hit it really hard on one of the sharp points on the headstock of my Schecter and cut the back of his hand open.

I almost smacked a seated woman in the back of the head with the butt of my bass when I was taking it off.

Put dents in the ceiling of the drummers basement on multiple occasions.

And I've had some close calls with taylor acoustics as well. Seems that basses don't think too fondly of them.

We were jamming one night and I spun around to do something and when I did I knocked an unopened can if beer on the ground and it busted open and beer went all over the place....good times haha

I dont know if this counts but at one gig I put a large glass of water on my amp...played a few songs...its gone. Figured I didn't put a drink there...and got another at the set break.

Same thing happened. I put it on the amp, played a few songs, went to grab it...gone.

Third set break, I grabbed a scotch and dry, had a sip, put it on the amp, play a few songs. Same issue! At this point I accuse the drummer of stealing my drinks (jovially) and he laughs and says "check behind your amp man, I've been watching your drinks slide off your amp all night long".

"Why didn't you say something'

"Well its a laugh, innit".

So that night, I thanked the stars nothing spilled into the amp or cab, and my tear down routine included clearing a small mountain of broken glass from the stage, much to the delight of the bar staff.

The guys blamed my amp but I blame the bass.
