Is it a kinda of crappy thing to do, to single out specific members to buy drinks for? Hell yeah it is, but I wouldn't take it personally, altough it's hard not to.
As a general rule I usually don't buy drinks for bands. I don't want them too blitzed to put on a good show for me to watch. That being said if I do decide I enjoyed the show enough to buy a round of drinks, I will ask the band members between sets, or after the show what it is they drink and get ALL of them what they want.

It's a bit different with a band. | Quote:

If someone came up to me and gave only me (or perhaps me and only one other member) a drink on stage with my band looking on, I'd sure as hell say something to the effect of, "Hey, what about the rest of my boys here?"
I'm tight with my band, it takes the efforts and contributions of every one of us to make for a good noise and evening's worth of entertainment. Why should I be singled out and get the credit?
Either all of us should, or none of us should.
Now, if patron hands me a drink and walks off, well, not much I can do about that. But it's wrong on several levels.
In my humble opinion, of course. | You are way to easily offended. Would you be equally as offended if someone bought you a drink, but no one else in the band? Quote:

Certain members of my band are always stumping for shots. Last time, it was moonshine and Jagger. I like to drink, but shots are for rednecks and college kids. Everytime I get them at a gig, I have to find a polite way to put it down with drinking it and potentially offending the buyer. I WISH they would exclude me!!!

Then at the end of the night you wait for them to put the money in the tip jar and they sorta "forget". Then comes the very awkward conversation about it.
After all this time if someone doesn't buy me a drink who cares? They usually do but if I want one I know where to get one. Now and then a patron will single out someone in the band they like. It's all good. Repeatedly mentioning drinks on the mic sounds like you're begging.

The day I have to lay down a cover, buy my own drinks AND put a $20 in the tip jar is the day I quit going out. I find the entitlement attitude by some here *really* strange. Buy your own drink...why do you want to drink some crazy unknown shot from some bar troll anyway? I'd rather pay the $8 and drink what I want.
Question...do you guys typically buy 5 drinks when you approach a table of ladies or do you just buy one for the looker you have your eyes on? For the record, I'm not comparing the OP to the hefty friend of the supermodel ;-)

As I have stated in previous posts, the feeling would be more like discomfort, and I doubt I would throw a fit, though I might say something along the lines of, "Hey, what about the rest of my boys working hard up here?" Being singled out as the diva or the more important member makes me uncomfortable.
Unless it's my wife doing it.
But from a stranger, it's awkward.
To those whom it doesn't bother, good on ya mate. I'd never accuse you of being insensitive. How pretentious. Quote:

In between sets, the band sets off in the crowd to mingle and pick up new gigs. It's not uncommon for a person to come up and have a 5 minute conversation with me ( I'm a very sociable guy) and offer me a drink for my time. Most of us come back on stage with a drink from someone in attendance, it doesn't bother any of us. We have a very attractive lead singer, she gets drinks from the crowd on stage in between songs, we usually laugh about it.
To be honest, I'm usually the guy that takes a few minutes of a band members time when it's their show, and offers to buy that person a drink.
Don't take it so personal, I know I'm not in the spotlight so I don't get the most recognition, but that's not what I'm after. I'm just a fun guy that wants to play music live for a crowd, and enjoy a CC&7 or two.... Just don't forget the lime!
