Sir Alex Gibson died in 1995, the year you were born.

I played in an orchestra where the soloist was all that and a bag of chips - been there done that and has the recording credits to prove it, and the simpleton young conductor tried to over-rule the soloist. The conductor got his way and 2/3 of the orchestra resigned following the concert.

Owned.

Castle's profile doesn't add up. 13 years old, tons of gear, plays every friday night. Doubtful.

Point of fact, the conductor would have known who "Tommy" was and have given him the latitude, if it were warranted. Contrary to the "seinfeld theory of music", the title of "Sir" isn't granted just because you own a baton.
+1
This is how life in an orchestra is.

Taking liberties with a score on one own's initiative is incredibly rude.

I wonder if this story is true.

In an Orchestral situation, taking liberties with a score on one own's initiative is likely to get you fired immediately!!.

Well I'm only 9 and I was there too. I played 17th dulcimer and its all true. Just because he is a prodigy you all want to gang up on him.

Assuming this is true....shame on both of them.

First, the conductor should know his musicians - at least the first-chair cats who get the solos on pieces such as this. Second, if Tommy Horn Boy had in fact played this piece with the Vienna Philharmonic...under direction of the composer, no less...he should've shared his insights and experience with Sir Alex in advance.

I always found that Horn Players - Orchestral "French Horn" Players that is - tend to be a bunch of Prima Donnas anyway.

BTW - I'm an Ex Orchestral Tuba Player who's sister played the Horn!!.
