I don't consider this humor but it is a gig story. Wow, you have to see the video of this one. Unreal that the drummer is ok.

Apparently God doesn't like Cheap Trick. They only got 3 songs in and wham!

Good news no one was seriously hurt.

Yeah ... that was huge news in Ottawa today, thankfully only a few were hurt. They cancelled the festival (Ottawa Bluesfest) for the rest of the night, some huge names were set to play too, Joe Satriani, Death Cab for Cutie, Jon Butler ... it was a guitarist's line up though

Wow, great they stayed unharmed. It would've been really sad 'cause I've just discovered Cheap Trick lately!

That storm came out of nowhere, some of the strongest winds i've ever felt.. I'm really glad no one got hurt.

EDIT
Ooh, and not sure where yahoo gets it's facts from, but every article i've seen says 4 hurt with only 1 with severe injuries.

Quote:
At least eight people were injured Sunday when severe weather conditions caused the stage to collapse during Cheap Trick's performance at the Ottawa Bluesfest in Ottawa, Canada, reports AP.
Yahoo thinks that sums it up nicely...

I was there at last year's Bluesfest when Rush played - The canopy above the stage is HUGE, and it's a good thing the wind didn't take it down towards the audience, or many more would have been injured.

Was out of the house when that weather shook the stage, and though the initial rain was not that impressive, the wind was just massive, but only for a relatively short period of time (10-15 mins?). Lost the top of our backyard maple tree, and now its threatening our power lines when it finally drops out of the canopy that its hung up on.

Most of the YouTube clips capturing this incident are worthless as far as showing what actually happened in any detail. But there's one clip I was watching where you don't see the stage but you do see how fast that system rolled in. It came up on folks there incredibly fast...

I live in an area where storms like that aren't uncommon but even I've never seen anything like that.

I was there that night with my girlfriend and a couple friends.

The sky was clear one minute, and the next there was a solid line of black clouds moving in. The wind was ridiculously strong. Dust was kicking up all over, all the sides of the beer tents and stuff were being blown open, and trees were bending over. My friend had branches blowing by his 18th floor apartment windows.

The stage Cheap Trick was playing on was metal supports with tarp or whatever material it was making up the walls and roof. They stopped playing when it really started gusting, and then a few moments later it toppled over. A really strong gust caught the fabric which acted like a sail and just collapsed it backwards onto the sidewalk and some parked 18 wheelers behind it. The sky went from clear to black and rainy in less than 5 minutes.
