Nice restaurant that I wouldn't have guessed hosting a band. Typical covers included "American Band," "Baba O," "Seven Nation Army," (ugh, White Stripes) "Southbound," "RearViewMirror," "Rockin' In The Free World," "She Hates Me," "Beer," and so forth. 2 14 song sets. Most of the songs are average 3-4 minutes long. The guitar player turned them into 10 minute songs with extra long, multiple guitar solos. I had previously asked him to try & shorten the solos, but things change when we're live I guess. We were supposed to get $100 each plus a percentage of what comes in through the door, potentially walking with $125-$150 each. As soon as we load in the bar's manager asked if we had anyone with us that can watch the door to collect the $5 cover charge as his guy called out. We didn't. It already sounded bad. Our set started at 10:00, took a break at 11:15, started at 11:45, done at 1:00. The singer "worked out a deal" with the manager & the band got $320, splitting to $80 each. Mind you, I've chipped in on 5 practices at $20 a pop, paid a $5 bridge toll, a $5 "valet fee" only to find my car right where I left it, and a 3 hour drive to the gig & back. It's my first gig with these guys. We have 2 more scheduled gigs coming up: one, a "showcase", which means everyone except the band gets paid, and another for 3 sets that will be another hour drive. I guess my mind is made up. Not sure if I should continue with the gigs or cut my losses.

These are the choicest IMO, love weddings! More often than not, good pay, free food/drinks, long breaks, short sets, early/short hours...what's not to like? Tough job, innit? |

This tribute band thing is turning out to be a blast www.myspace.com\priesttribute2008 | JJ's rocked, nice people and they were very intoi us and our opening act. They were also very very good @ what they did. Props to the guys in Shout @ the Devil, can't wait to work with you guys again.
The Green Room was a blast, our gig was "sold out" weeks in advance. They actually printed & sold tix for a tribute band !?!?! Crazy ! But we pack the place ! There were probably 400 people there and you couldn't move. The crowd was into things and made us feel very appreciated. After all these years doing crappy bar gig for $50, I fell that I'm finally "getting someplace". Again we shared the bill the the Crue trib, and they rocked the house.

In general the future for gigs is getting bleaker. I'm adding and subtracting about 2 gigs a week. Thats a net gain of zero. They come in, they get cancelled. |

One audience member told me "You look happy with these guys, you should stay with them." Of course, she didn't see me with the other band, so what does that really mean? Eh, she meant well...
Now no gig for 3 weeks. Gaaah, I might have to actually practice, just for callus maintenance!

| | Registered User Endorsing Artist: Crook Custom Guitars | | Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Wheeling WV | | An update from Saturday.........a fundraiser steak fry.......and the placed was packed! Not the greatest room for sound, pretty boomy, but we've dealt with it in the past. Fill it up with 400-500 people and it's bearable. Just to give ya' an idea of the type of crowd, the beer distributor was pulling out the beer trailer while we were loading out......he said they used 10 kegs (160 gallons) for around 450 people........they were havin' some fun! |
