Apparently quite a cramped performance area. Eh, it's money. | "Cramped" wasn't the word...we were literally back-to-back-to-bacl behind our singer. Good thing she's short...but I still had to hold my bass nearly vertical to keep from crowding everyone and I was facing the drummer. Didn't even need the PA, just used the monitors and aimed them out into the bar.
The band did well under the circumstances, very well. It was fun, even though during my vocal spots I was singing to the front door.
On the bass playing front, after our second set, a couple was leaving. The woman put her arms around my shoulders and said she wished I was facing the audience because they couldn't see what I was playing. Her husband said my playing was "beautiful" and he was really impressed with my ability. That made my night.
Here's a pic our drummer's wife took right after we set up:

I have been in those situations I remember once actually having my stage amp under a table and having to sit at the end of the bar to fit the band on stage I played sitting at the bar the entire show. Very strange reactions from people also did a gig where I was wireless and it was nice out the club had tables outside the band was setup in a picture window of the bar so I went outside and played a couple songs standing among the tables. Ah the early years lol

Show went pretty well for the most part, we had the average number of screw-ups. Crowd had fun, we had a good time. Got to use my new Carvin 5'er for the first time at a gig. I sang lead for the first time and did my usual harmonies. Overall, good show with a pretty big crowd for a Sunday afternoon.

Was really wishing our singer hadn't gotten rid of her wireless mic last night...

It's huge, the stage is gargantuan and stands 5' off the floor with lights already installed and all the bells and whistles..............but our show tomorrow is literally "in the bar".
Normally, we play at this place outside on their fine screened in patio - which is very nice with room for 100 folks. It's one of our more intimate regular gigs.....but it's way too cold to play outside right now, even with heaters so the manager called and told me to set up "inside".
Knowing this bar very well, I said "where inside" (because it's a horseshoe bar - a large one, but with no where for a band to set up)........and he said "in the nook where they roll the silverware for the restaurant by the walk in freezer".........huh????
I told him I had no idea where that was, but I'd surely come by this morning to take a look - which I just did.
It's 12' x 6' right by the emergency exit!
I have no idea how I'm going to get 2 tops, 2 subs, 2 keyboards, 2 mics and my bass amp in there but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a very "intimate" gig!! I'd better take a bath before I go (and tell all the others to do the same)!!

In between songs the guitarist leans over and tells me like 3 or 4 chords.
I pray that the songs make sense by the 2nd verse or chorus in my head. So far we've been doing ok.
May the speed gods be with my fret hunting hand.

They stop having bands for BS karaoke but came to their senses when the people stop showing up. Anyway looking forward to the second one more so we can really show those people what they have been missing!

Off course I forgot my camers again.
Got another one at a different bar this afternoon. I'm glad I have off tonight from work.

There was a banquet next door that let out just before we started playing, and a good number of those folks came to the bar area to watch us. There was much dancing, and the Christmas songs went over very well.

I'm actually leaving this group soon...last gig with them is New Year's Eve. There's a lot of reasons I had to do it, but I'm really going to miss the regular gigs (and I know they'll be landing the more lucrative gigs in Saratoga by the summer). Really, nothing beats playing in front of a crowd.
My other project at the moment is really fun and "artistically fulfilling," but it isn't the kind of music that does well in these parts. We'll be writing and recording lots, but likely not too many shows.

The highlight (for me anyway) was a couple of people in attendance shouted out 2 songs they wanted to hear (one of them being "The Chair", which, as far as I know, no one else here does it) and we nailed it back to back. Needless to say, they were quite happy.
