Gig tonight at our favorite place to play: Sailor's Return in Stuart, FL. Unfortunately it is outside, and it's supposed to get down to 59 tonight. That's not so bad; hopefully it won't go lower than that.

12:30 AM and I was home, showered and in bed. Gig went well, and it wasn't too cold. It's nice to gig until 11 PM and live 6 minutes from the gig.

I played an interesting gig Friday with my old school honky-tonk band. We were hired by our local big city International Airport (mid-size Southern USA city, million people) to play in the main terminal for a monthly concert series, for crazy good money. They set-up hay bales to make it look "country", and we provided the PA. We play in the part of the airport where all the shops and restaurants are located and all the terminals feed into. So everyone arriving and departing had to walk right by us. It was a hoot, people were shocked, they dropped their bags and started dancing. It was a real scene, big crowd watched the entire 2 set show. We get all country-fied with our fancy shirts and cowboy hats, and sing Merle, Waylon, Loretta and such. The airport had setup some bars, and hired about 20 swing dancers to keep the party going. We played our fisrt gig with a new drummer who killed it. I played my 1975 P-bass and SVT VR w/ 410hlf cab. No train wrecks, but we did have an awkward moment during Gram Parson's "Drug Store Truck Driving Man" when the lead singe belts out "he's the head of the Klu Klux Klan", which are the words in the song. Well, there were some finger pointing and shocked people who just heard Klu Klux Klan belted out over the PA by some redneck Country band. Of course the song is making fun of a bigoted disc jockey back in the 1960's and is a anti-rascist song, but I always cringe when I hear the words sung Overall great gig, great pay, and a lot of fun.

Gig tonight with Third Degree. I was expecting a big crowd, but now it's snowing pretty hard so that may keep people away. I hate Pennsylvania winters.

Mmmm awkward, but great gig by the sounds.

We had a corporate function, about 300ppl. PA supplied. I took my Traynor YBA300 & 2 (3015 modded) PF115HE's
This was last night -Sat.
Nothing now till Fri's (another) function gig, then Sat's a benefit for the recent bushfires gig.

Didn't check in before the gig but I played in a British Legion branch on Saturday night supporting another local band's EP release. Top quality gig, and our singer/rhythm guitarist did it with a dislocated collar bone (mostly healed, but still!). Great atmosphere and everyone had a good time as far as I could tell. The negative point of the night was that the drummer of the band releasing the EP decided to get his ass out and rub it on my bass in the middle of Seek and Destroy... Needless to say I wasn't happy. But I lent it to the bassist of that band when he broke a string on his bass. They played an absolute cracker of a set (featuring a song called Porno Mustache, aw yeah). I'd do that gig again in a heartbeat. Hopefully there's a lot more to come this year as well.

I am playing the "10th Annual Rockabilly Ruckus" this Saturday at Skipper's Smokehouse in Tampa. Great venue, but outside, so I hope it doesn't get too cold. There are 9 bands playing this all day event. We go on near the end of the night, so it's a great slot. We are also providing the back-line (for a fee).

Ended up with a pretty good crowd anyway, even though travel was rough. That was nice. Although the load-out in the snow, and the late night drive home wasn't.

Secret Treaty picked up a last minute gig for this weekend, but one of our two guitar players isn't available. So, we're going to have a sub for one set,a nd go with a single guitar for the other two sets. This might be interesting.

Gig tonight at a country club. They've been very good to us in the past and have invited our spouses to come for dinner this time.

Tomorrow night's gig has already been cancelled due to expected rain for the next 48 hours. Oh well.

I've got a gig (tonight / tomorrow depending on how you look at it ) Saturday night! Chicago folks, if you're looking for something to do come on by Wise Fools Pub, there's no cover if you RSVP by sending an email to RSVP@rwimchicago.com and tell 'em you're going to see Shaggwell... It'll be fun, I promise!

Pub gig tonight. 10-1. There's a whole lot of smoke around due to bushfires, and there's a bit of heatwave going on, so hopefully I don't pass out due to an asthma attack in concert with dehydration. But it's worth it for the free beer, steak, and good cash.

I have a Fair gig this weekend and next. Fair is not the quality of the gig, but where it is. St. Lucie County Fair Saturday and Sunday this and next weekend. It's an easy gig but a marathon gig both weekends. We play only 45 minute sets, but they are at 2, 6 and 9:30 today and 2 and 6 tomorrow. Next weekend is the same. I live about 50 minutes from the fair grounds, so I'm going to my office (only 20 minutes from there) between sets to catch up on paperwork and such.

Checking out - gig went well. I switched to my Yammie half-way through because I'm just not feeling the Fender anymore. Going to sleep now - $200, a few six packs, and a 400g scotch fillet better off than when I arrived at the gig.

Gig last night went pretty good. (People dancing is a good thing, right? haha) Our drummer had just gotten back from w week in Germany so our first set was a little shaky (not much time to practice for it ) but it was a blast. Pretty good turnout; about 15 people showed up for us! (more than we usually get haha). Long story short, the other 2 bands that were supposed to play before and after us cancelled at the very last minute so we ended up playing about 2 1/2 - 3 hours. But since not very many people showed up (the owner was expecting 30 - 40 between the 3 bands) we didn't get paid. Luckily we have it writing that we were guaranteed X$ for the night (which the owner said he didn't know about) so we called the person who booked us and will get it taken care of tomorrow. In the owner's defense, he was a really nice guy, was groovin to the music and gave us a couple rounds on the house. But still. ...
Had a gig today as well (battle of the bands type thing at a local club with my other band) that was a blast. Probably didn't make it to the next round, but it doesn't matter; got to hang out with some good folks, hear some good music, and had my first bloody mary! haha

I gotta check in after tonight.

Just got back from an open mic night at a local bar that my band is playing next month. My drummer wanted to go check out the house set to decide whether or not he would pack his for the gig. I said I would go along with him, our plan was to just scope it out, "got work in the morning yada yada yada didn't want to be out late" buuuuuuuuut better bring the bass just incase... Ended up being the "acting house band" all night! Not much of a turn out but we played with all but one of the guitar players that came out to sing songs. Ended up playing for about 2 hours (1/2 songs I've never played before(1/4 songs I've never HEARD before!)) with a good mix of really talented guys. Got to play everything from Zeppelin to Van Morrison to Merle Haggard.

Definitely recommend checking out any local open mics, guitar players are a dime a dozen, its the only situation where you can become the most popular person just by being the bass player! I will be back at this one for sure.

Dropkick Murphys

My boy's band is opening for the Dropkick Murphys for the next couple of weeks, starting in Atlanta on Monday... appreciate some feedback if anyone's down for any of the gigs!
