No 'next day report' thread for small stories that don't warrant their own thread so...

Last night at a pretty cool, lively tavern, we competed for 1.5 hours with the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup playoffs. We had one stage. They had 4 HD widescreen TVs. AND they decided to do a double Over Time.

We could have shown up at 10:45pm instead of 9pm and no one would have noticed...

Ugh.

Where did you play? I'm out of Boston and play around.

Played a Thursday gig in Salem, and we really had an off night. Sound issues starting up which killed the flow of our first set, leaving too much dead air, plus as a Thursday obviously not a "weekend" crowd so it was just boring.

Happy Easter everyone, if you are celebrating that holiday. Drive gigs this weekend, Friday one hour away in Richmond,VA, last night 2 hours away in Artlington, VA. Friday was ok, crowd was thin due to rain, but lots of 'talent' among the female patrons. Last night had more people but less of a talent ratio. Both nights had that strange yuppie/grad student aged crowd of self-absorbed people who just don't clap. Dance floor is filled with upwards of 50 people, another 50+ sitting around actively listening - most for the whole night, both sets - but when we'd finish a song just crickets or at best a brief bit of applause. Until the last song, at which point rather than much actual applause, the audience issues more of a whiny demand for "one more song!" chanted out of self-indulgence more than anything.

At least last night we did have one "psyched drunk" couple, the girl was from PA, and the guy trying to pick her up and she danced the whole night and drunkenly cheered after every song. Bless them and their rantings - "I'm telling her you guys are just kicking ass! She doesn't know!" "Oh yes I do to know, better than you you drunk- do you guys ever play in <some podunk town in PA I've never heard of and can't even remember>?"

Oh and plenty of the usual stupid requests. We're an original music modern acoustic rock band, and our bizarre requests for the weekend: Outkast, Michael Jackson, and the"The Gambler" by Kenny Rogers. At least there wasn't one for Kenny Chesney or Mariah Carey.

I also had further enforced that my band leader often values my silence more than anything else, but that he really likes it when it's just the drums and his acoustic guitar playing together. Nothing like feeling the love. Not that I played great or anything, but I wasn't sucking either. Oh well. (Thanks, I feel better already)

played a gig last night, ( or i should say attempted to play ) in Pacifica Ca @ Winters Tav.

have played there numerous times, usually pack the joint & literally blow it out

showed up early as usual & load in, set up, & before plug in, i use a tester to check the ground on the circuit, two green lights, so plug in, & everything sounds fine

rest of the band shows up,, repeat process, two guitar players / marshall half stacks

both guitar rigs are getting a VERY LOUD intermittent electrical humming/interference

no owner / manager / soundman on premises

place is filling up with customers to hear us

we're trying everything possible under the sun to plug into a clean circuit

ALL electrical circuits are SERIOUSLY JACKED

& the truth comes out, the week after we played our last gig there, the bartenders kept serving a patron wayyy too many drinks,, & after last call, drunk chick jumps in her 4x4 & puts it in D instead of R & nails the gas,,,, 4x4 flies up the landing, thru the wall, & winds up in the Tav, injuring numerous people

oh ya, & taking out half of the wiring in the process

bartender chick says that since the repairs, there's been a " problem " with the electrical circuits up on stage but " all the bands play thru it "

GRRRRRRRR

so,,,,

with about 100 people there waiting for us to preform,, we start breaking down & loading out

i hope we get paid

Sub gig with my friend's dance/pop/rock group went really well! I was suprised that the song that got the crowd dancing was "I will survive!"

good question,, anybody out there got the answer ?

i know that it's dangerous to all the gear that's plugged into it

i'm sure at some point, ( if it's not properly diagnosed & fixed ) it'll cause a hot spot, ignite, & burn the joint down

Just finished playing at church! There were 2 bands, one I'm bassist in and the other one my girlfriend plays bass in. her bass decide not to work when a song started so I had to walk up with my bass for her to use and adjust the strap for her after she put it on because the rest of the band didn't stop the song and she needed to make an entrance.

Thank god for great sound guys that can make the adjustment between a passive and an active bass on the fly while balancing 3 singers, a drummer (and a conga player) and a pianist.

Gig mistake!

Played a gig last night at a new venue for us. Sports Bar/restaurant. Luckily for us the NC hockey team didn't make to the playoffs, so no competing with HD tvs.
I was playing through a Hartke rig and GK head. Have been bi-amping a 15, 4-10s and a 2-10. Set up went well. A few times through the night our sound guy kept checking on my rig. Didn't notice until I broke it down that I took the feed to the 15 and plugged it into the 4-10. So I had two feeds to the 4-10 and nothing to the 15. OMG........Lack of paying attention......very lame. Could have kept it to myself......but admitted the mistake and apologized to the guys......The sound guy was the only one who noticed!
