This was back when i was in hs, senior year. Talk about wow. Vic came and did a concert at my hs and had us play with him. He actually ended up hiring one of our band teachers, Derico Watson, to play with him fulltime. He still does. Was a crazy connection, was a great experience. We traded solos on Pick up the Pieces. He made me look good of course, didnt just murder me. That impressed me. Of course, he eventually tore me apart, but he let me have some fun. Ha we did this for like 10 minutes. I think i have a video somewhere. I was goin through some old photos and just thought id share. Anyone else had any experiences like this?

Wow! Very cool indeed! It's not everyday that you get to stand on stage, let alone PLAY with one of your heroes! That is, I assume you hold Mr. W in hero regard

That's pretty awesome. I recently went on a last minute field trip (and I really do mean last minute) with some kids in band to see Wynton Marsalis play with some kids from the local art's school. And by 'play', I mean he stood there and talked about how they should solo or something. It literally put me to sleep, and that usually doesn't happen to me.

The lunch was good, though.

Yea definitely hero. He was just a down to earth, regular guy. back then i was playing a crappy dean edge 6 and he rolls up to me like, yo man, thats a real nice bass. I was just like, dude are you kidding me lol. I remember riding home from school oneday, and hes just walking down the street, looking around. I was like *** thats victor wooten. he said he just wanted to be out and about lol.

That is freakin' awesome, man. I'm not ashamed to say I'd probably freeze up if I was onstage with Vic... You got balls, man.

I went to a clinic of his probably 12 years ago and he is very down to earth. He'd make mistakes while playing and do the inevitable "GAH!!" just like the rest of us..

I met Vic at a Bela FLeck show about 15 years or so ago. He's cool as a fan.

I hope I get a chance to meet him after the show when he plays Yoshi's in a couple weeks, he is playing with Chick Corea (sp?)

I had the pleasure of meeting Victor Wooten a few years back (when I was too young to fully appreciate it) at an old band member's house. His dad is a pretty well known harmonica player and plays in a band with Bernard Purdie, so there's always some sort of music legend hanging around. It was definitely an awesome experience.

Every year the jazz band teacher gets a Pro like that to come in. He started with John Fedchock. The next year he was able to get Randy Brecker to come in. But alas at that time i was still in middle school and didnt know crap about music. This years hes looking at Steve Davis or Steve Turre.
