Haha, So I was at band practice today when a cop came to our practice space due to a noise complaint. We allowed him to come inside to check the walls and suggested we get foam on the walls. He notices my bass and asked if he can try my bass. I gave him the bass and he starts playing. Pretty good actually thats what suprised me. He talked about how he played in a band for 4 years. and he was selling all his bass equipment for only 1000 bucks and hell of a nice deal with the stuff he was offering. I wish he repeated what he had but i coulda used one of his 410 cabs he wanted to sell. Anyways he was really interested in our music and asked if we can play a song for him and we were like sure! We played for him until in the middle of our song, our guitarists string broke. Unable to play, he says that he had a pair of strings at his house thats nearby and he can go check if he has the string that our guitarist needs. After checking on how loud we were and giving us suggestions what we should do. he went to get the strings. Though it was the thought that counted, he came back saying that he didnt have it cause he gave it to someone i think it was.
and he went very easy on my band about them smoking pot since it was obvious they were -_- He said as long as they are not driving he wont do anything. He also made a couple of jokes asking our guitarist who was playing with his wah pedal saying "are you sending demos to the porn industry or something?". and the fact that we have both loius armstrong and Willie Nelson on the walls.
Anyways, i thought he was the coolest cop i've met. The fact he played bass was even better. That made my whole band's day.

We have a bitchy neighbor that calls every time we play and, after about 8 months of responding, told her to go pound sand. He threatened to write her a citation if she called the cops on us again.

You couldn't hear anything when a practice was going on, but his 'nut job' next door neighbor would call in noise complaints constantly on everybody on the block it seemed, because he was a day sleeper. If kids were playing outside, or dogs were barking in the daytime, he was calling the police. Well the band had a meeting one Sunday afternoon with no practice going on at all. There were no guitars or even my bass present in the house at the time! Sure enough two officers showed up over a noise complaint. ' Nut Job 'must have seen all of the cars in the driveway, and called.
Well the officers weren't too happy to get a needless call and they went next door and wrote him a ticket out for filing a false complaint. The neighbor of course blew up with profanities over his ticket and that nearly led to his being arrested as we the band went outside to watch the action.Fortunately the clown ended up moving away a few weeks later and peace and sanity came back to block where my drummer lived.

One of the high level practitioners of the martial art I do (Eskrima) runs a narcotics squad in Chicago. Another is a musician in L.A. They met at a workshop we were running out here in CA and became really good friends - the narc and the stoner-guitarist.
It's an ongoing joke - "yeah, I was busting this guy the other day who reminded me of you..."

When the policeman asked what the hurry was, this guy told him that he was late for a concert. "Who are you going to see?" asked the cop. "Stevie Wonder", replied my friend. The policeman let my friend off with a warning. |

Left my cell phone on the roof of the singers car. As we're getting on a freeway onramp we heard it slide off and pulled over on the shoulder, got out and looked for it.
A CHP came up and wanted to know what's up. He blocked off the onramp and got out and helped search for it. No luck though. |

And if you get pulled over on the way to a concert, the answer to who you are going to see is never Snoop Dogg or any band with Marley in the title. You will arrive late.
My cool cop is the one who responded to my head-on collision. |

A couple of cops show up and tell us us they got a noise complaint -- from about 6 miles away! Somehow the wind was carrying the sound across the valley and it converged at that point. They laughed it off, but requested that we keep some beer on tap and a few babes in the hot tub for when they got off their shift. |
