No offense meant BSB! Just joking around. I'm sure you have a still out back behind that garage where you park your car!

I was once told anything can be a country song if you want it to be.

Funny you should say that.....actually two of my friends have stills they built and it's a competition between them as to who makes the best shine.

I drive a Dodge pickup. It doesn't fit in my garage.

I don't own a single pair of Dockers but I have lots of jeans, and I usually wear work boots.

Where I live in this state, it's pretty "country". Actually, I grew up about 1/2 mile from a dairy farm.

Funny stuff......

In the words of Brantley Gilbert (who I'm sure you hate....ha ha)

"Country must be country-wide".

Although I am a recent convert to the music.

HAHA just some good-natured ribbing. One of the artists I will be backing up on some spring and summer tours is from Wisconsin and while I enjoy calling him a "Cheesehead Cowboy" I have respect for the songs he writes. He's a real old-school country crooner and he sings about the blood, sweat and tears of everyday life.

Whoever told you any song can be country is the same guy who thinks all kids are special and deserve a trophy. You certainly won't win any country cred points in my neck of the woods talking about Brantley Gilbert. Most of the music that comes out of Nashville now and is played on the new country stations is not country music to me. It's watered down rock with a tele twang and some good hooks sung by some pretty boy in $500 designer jeans and a manicured beard. Most of these newer "artists" aren't fit to shine Merle Haggard's boots.

Anyway, rant over and I know I can't dictate to anyone what real country music is. I know it when I hear it and YMMV.

I gig with a roots/country trio consisting of myself on bass, a steel guitarist (pedal steel too) and the third alternates between a fiddle/mandolin or dobro/mandolin player whichever is available.

I have a bunch of favorites but "Crazy" is at the top of my list at the moment.

Can I have number 00? (it's my favorite NASCAR number)

Merle, from what I understand, was the REAL DEAL.

I also like most of the Waylon Jennings stuff I've heard. And I like Bobby Bare, George Jones, a few others. Not sure if they're considered "real" but I like what I've heard.

The new stuff is fun but it's really just rock music with a tele twang and a southern drawl, and it's commercial-oriented.

Sure. Unconventional, but then again I always like people who think outside the box......

Nice! Never had any corn squeezin's from the Big Apple!

Apple pie flavor is big around here and also peach which is referred to as "the panty dropper". My fave is the regular though if it's well made. Most is nowadays. The producers I know are just small artisan craftsman.

We do mostly 50s rock and roll and rockabilly, but we got booked to play at a country festival a while back. The old stuff from Elvis, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc. sounded way more country to my ears than the Eagles-ish stuff that most of the "cowboy hat guys" were playing.

That doesn't make me a real country bassist, but I salute you guys who do it right.

Oh no.

Now you've said it.

Nickelback.

This thread will never be right again.

Honestly, I do like a lot of the "New Country" coming out. We're phasing it into our show, but honestly.......

It's strange to follow up "Mama Tried" with "5-1-5-0"......

And how do we go from "Act Naturally" to "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk"?

The questions may never end.......

I don't even know any of the new country. Garth Brooks is about the newest artist I know. It's all just rock on a tele with a drawl to me.

I'm in. I'm in two Country bands, and my sound production company almost exclusively works with Country bands.

We actually do Folsom Prison Blues and Hip Hop in a Honky Tonk, as well as I Play Chicken With the Train and Good Hearted Woman. It's all Country to me.

I play in a country and Southern Rock band. Newest country I have played is probably "In Color" by Jamie Johnson. I always said I would never play country. Thought it would be to boring. I have to say that I have learned so much since I started playing country. It is alot harder to do right than most people think.
