I actually decided that if or when my current band goes south I'm staying in the country music if I can.

| | | | I play in a classic rock/blues band but I'm trying to slide some country songs into the mix. The singer seems to know some since I heard her singing "Boot Scootin' Boogie" (before her husband stopped her) and she wants to do "Walkin' After Midnight". Just have to convince the rest of the band first.
Favorite song (at this time)

Texas On A Saturday Night by the Timejumpers | Boot Scootin' Boogie is a really fun song to play. Just don't play it too fast! Nothing upsets the Line Dancing Ladies more than playing it too fast.
Another great line dancing song is Lay Down Sally by Eric Clapton. It may be a "rock song" but the bass line is all country. Always got the line dancers up dancing. |

I will try remember not to speed up "Boot Scootin' Boogie"...hopefully, the drummer remembers, too!
A more experienced bass player, who primarily plays blues, told me that country bass is tough...gotta stay dead on the tempo and lock in with the drummer. |

No drums so I really lock in with the mando's vamping or with the guitar if the mando is soloing. It's not exactly synchronized locking in though because the bass beats on say a I/V come in a bit ahead of the vamping kinda like a kickdrum before a snare and combined with the rhythm effects I'm also creating by slapping it's a real blast when it all comes together.

Been playing country for a long time, right now the song I'm in to the most, since I'm singing it, is Pancho and Lefty by Townes Van Zandt. There's a delicate touch to it and can be over played really easily. As someone may have said earlier it's all about what you don't play and letting the notes breathe |

Some good tracks are:
Wicked Twisted Road
Let's Just Fall
Crazy Eddies Last Hurrah
She Sang the Red River Valley
Motel Cowboy Show
Wiggles an Ritalin

| | | | Another observation over the years. Have you ever noticed how a country drummer usually can play country AND rock/blues, but a rock drummer often cannot play country, especially 3/4 time. Seen it too many times.

I have been in country bands where we auditioned a rock drummer for the job and found out he couldn't play country worth a hoot. They over played, played too loud, rushed the songs, etc. etc.
