I'm in a country band in New Hampshire. Favorite song we play would have to be Creepin'. Probably because it's the newest song we've added.

Would you consider Dire Strait's "Walk of Life" a country song?
I can picture people dancing to it.

Got my first Country gig tomorrow night, hope it goes OK!

If you have not listened to Mark Knopfler's recordings with Chet Atkins you should make an effort..."Neck and Neck"

Wow, I was never a big fan of that bass, but that color scheme makes it looks sweet!

HAHA! Willie is still the man. Check out his reaction to Blake Shelton's old farts and jackasses comment and a little spoof on the recent Beyonce lip-synch controversy.

Thought I'd post this here, as it was a country band, country gig etc.

We were playing a country festival, stage on semi-trailer.
About 1/2 way thru the set, our pedal steel player (a damn good drinker) had a bit of a break for a song & took his chance for a much needed bladder reduction
He makes his way off the stage, I was still playing onstage of course, & all I & my other band mates see, is him leave, then come back after 3 mins with the reddest face & a very embarrassed look.

We found out later he went behind stage to have a leak, saw a blank wall & proceeded to urinate (no-one else around, in a paddock etc).
Halfway thru he realised the "wall" was a part of the stage/truck & it didn't go all the way to the ground, in fact it stopped about chest height. Of course he couldn't stop then.
So, the audience see him leave stage, go down the stairs, then see his LEGS walk up the other end of the stage/semi, have a (very long) pee, facing them & get back onstage, very red-faced.

The rest of us wondered why he was so embarrassed & reddened & all he said was, "I've done something very silly"....

It was Very funny later.

I've played in Country Bands, Alt-Country Bands, and tons of Rock Bands. I am having a ball currently in an old school honky tonk band. Standards from the 50's - 70's, some newer stuff in that vane.
One of my favorite songs to play is Randy Foster's "Just Call Me Lonesome". It's a pretty up-temp shuffle, but I can work in some fast walking during the solos and really stretch out.

The current band (me in red/white):

Although I have a couple of rock trio side projects my main gigging band is a 5 piece country/60's rock playing the Legion (VFW) and dance club circuit.

We play Walk Of Life as well as Mark Knopfler's The Bug. Mary Chapin Carpenter did a version of The Bug as well but really prefer Knopfler's version. Never fails to fill the dance floor and our guitar player gets to stretch out a little.

Until our fiddle/mandolin/flat top picker player got really sick we regularly mixed in some bluegrass to pretty good response as well. One of our best tunes was a version of Vince Gill's Liza Jane featuring his tenor voice and some hot mandolin picking. Damn, I sure miss him.

Edit:
Oops, forgot to ask for a number. Figure 40 years or so of playing country should qualify me for one.

I have been in country bands where we auditioned a rock drummer for the job and found out he couldn't play country worth a hoot. They over played, played too loud, rushed the songs, etc. etc.
Drummer I play with in some side projects is a fine rock drummer. He's driving himself crazy right now learning how to play the classic country shuffle with heavy brushes on his snare.

When I started playing in my first country band (strictly rock before that) our BL was constantly leaning over and yelling "KISS" at me.

From a sig line I've seen somewhere here on TB: " It's not the notes you play, it's the notes you don't play" that make it sound good.

I just joined a country band and am playing out my final gigs with an old school hard rock band. Last night we all get ready to start the 2nd set and guitar player decides he needs to use the men's room. While we're waiting I start playing Hank Williams Jr. Family tradition, just bass drums and the singer and me. The crowd went crazy and started singing along. It just goes to show that everybody likes country!

You know, I'm thinking that Country must be country-wide...

Edit: ah, you beat me!

I'll replace it with "we all got a hillbilly bone down deep inside."

I want in on this club! I spent the vast majority of my bass playing career doing country music. Although I'm an old guy (50) I really like the new country better than the more traditional kind. Anything by Jason Aldean is cool with me.

My first country gigs Friday and Saturday were a hoot!
The crowd was real friendly, people drank and danced and we all just had a good time.

Haven't had this much fun playin' since I don't know when.

That's how I felt when I started to play in a country band. It is fun to dress up with a cowboy hat too.

I came out of a blues/rock/classic rock background before doing this.

After I was hired, our frontman at the time pulled me aside by the second practice and said he had to talk to me. He had been fronting country bands for the better part of 35 years.

He explained how "country" works. And it went kinda like this;

"Listen, I know you're a 'rock star' and all, but this isn't like what you've done before. Country music is simple music with a lot of feel that focuses on the vocals and the story of the song. Back down the volume, simplify the basslines, and listen to what else is going on. It's not about how much you play, but how you play what is needed."

I listened and determined he was right.

It actually is great music to play and once you "get it", you get it.

For the newbs.....hang tight, numbers to come soon!!!!!
