Okay - this Craig's List is great - are they trying to insult bass players everywhere or are they challenging all of us? More importantly - who'd reply to this?? (posted in North New Jersey) RE: ANYBODY CAN PLAY BASS
Okay--I have a bass & amp--anytime you think you want to sit in with us "boring old farts" just let me know. I guarantee you that you couldn't cut the mustard--nor could 90% of the players out there. Yes I agree--most blues bassists are boring--but so are country guys. Remember--it takes more creativity to create over fewer chords--that's what's missing in music today. The heart and soul is missing--it has become a steady stream of meaningless notes--there is no connection to the tune being played. Technical players, lacking articulation, space between passages, nuance, dynamics---I've been in this business for over 50 + yrs.--the music scene is flooded with players--sad to say that most of them are mediocre at most. I don't know what "music" you profess to play---that is your choice--but we have our preference--we're not knockin what you play. But again---the invitation is open--I KNOW you wouldn't be able to keep up with us.

We are looking for a bass player who has the chops, but will play what and when We tell them to. We also expect top notch playing and dedication, for little to no pay. Furthermore, don't expect to get any complements on Your playing or anything You wrote on Your own.
We aren't trying to come off as jerks, We are just God's gift to music and we know it. We also once had a Bass player who tried to be innovative and think for Himself, but He just didn't fit into the program so We fired him. So if You think You have the ability to be a mindless zombie, give Us a shout. |

Prefer you have some expeirence [sic] playing Buddhist Metal, but we can teach the style. Must be able to play seated on floor with a shirtless fat belly or be in process of gaining weight. Beer usually helps, recommend imported lager. Looking for drummer and a chanter who can...well, chant. Harmony chanting is a plus. We usually play in candle light so dimmer packs and elaborate lighting systems are not needed. This is kind of urgent as I already have gigs scheduled in Louisville, southern Indiana, and Japan.

He probably had a decent post, stating they are older guys wanting to play cover music, and low and behold some troll lashes out at his for being an "old fart" wanting to play with older musicians and/or for playing cover music/blues. His retort probably wasn't the way to go about it, but hey, he was probably insulted so he went one step further. Not my style, but to each their own. I see this 10 times a day on the Charlotte CL board.
