CRAZY Christmas concert!

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay, so I'm playing bass in this Christmas Concert for school. I'm doing a duo with a singer and the music teacher(Who I SWEAR is tone deaf!) has changed the notes on me twice before this morning. That's cool, I've had time to practice and stuff, the only problem is I have to hit a low C and low B when I play and I use my four-string for alot of school functions. So I bring an Ibanez Soundgear tuned BEAD all ready for the practice today. She changes the notes on me. AGAIN. I can't play them because I'm downtuned and it takes me about 5 minutes to tune back up and I'm supposed to leave for mass then come back and play it. So she says just play up on the neck and so i do and it sounds like CRAP.

So we come back from mass, do the ending part of it first and there's massive feedback from the mics. The principal messes with the knobs on MY AMP.(Which I'll tell you was in NO WAY connected to the PA.) My amp gets like blown out, then everyone laughs and I'm like AGH! and run the 20 feet over to my amp and freak out because the knobs got screwed up. Needless to say I'm bringing my cheap small one tomorrow because my arm is sore and I don't want my good one ruined.

So we'll see how it goes tomorrow, but have you ever done any kind of free thing that people just demand too much of you.(Oh, did I mention it's Thrusday and I know the first line of about 20 lines of my part? And I don't ahve the other parts to the music.)

Repeat after me: DON'T TOUCH MY GEAR!
As for the note changes, tell her, "Look, I'm doing this for free. You've changed the notes 3 times already. The next time you change the notes, you'd better be prepared to change the bassist as well."

Yes, if she changes the notes on me once more I'm gunna tell ehr to play it herself, and I was out of the room. I figured the PRINCIPAL OF OUR SCHOOL would be able to know not to touch my gear which had it been broken would have bought me a new amp.

I'm very careful with others playing my gear; my teacher can play my bass, my brother can, fellow bass students is already tricky. Some dude almost ripped my G string off while 'learning' to pop...

freebies are always the worst. When people are paying good rates they value what they're getting. When you're working cheap they always try to get a little more.

If you'll do something for free they think you'll do twice as much for twice the pay!

My teacher I have no problem with playing, my uncle not so mcuh either. I let other friends play my fours, but my six doesn't get touched by anybody but me my uncle and my bass teacher.

Did I mention today was our final practice and she started without me? This concert is going to be totally crappy. At least I got out of classes.

i also have a messed up school christmas concert->
im playing with two bands.
1st band were playing Landing in London by 3 Doors Down. which we can pull of, and make it sound awesome.
2nd band consists of 4 guitarists playing Like Light to Flies by Trivium. They asked me to play on Monday (i was alright with that cuz i already knew the song) The try out is today after school, and our own practice was yesterday. Needless to say, my hopes arn't so high for the 2nd band...

Today the music teacher was FREAKING OUT because I wasn't in the spotlight and I let the singer take it. I sat in the back by the sound stuff in case anything went wrong.

We have another shod I should be leaving for in 20 mintues and I still need to get changed. I'll report back with how it was, I'm brining my DS to chat with friends too, so i won't have to run everywhere to get people. We're going to be all over the school at strategic points.

It ran fairly smoothly, I hung out in my classroom until they called me down, then stopped by the people running the spotlight to grab a soda and sat outside with me all ready until it was time to go on, then I ran in plugged in and started playing.

The whole night was like a break, it was pretty relaxing.
