I've been working on a bassline with my guitar lessons guy but he wont help me with the pattern (it's all patterns to me) for the chorus until i can show him that i can do what we worked out for the verses.
I might not like the song much, but i totally see the potential for me to do something besides root notes :-)

They are a very nice set to go with a micro head because they are so efficient.
My larger rig ( DB750 and GS412) drives the 750 watts into the 1200 watt cab that gores down to 37hz. In either case I never have to go past 10:30 on my master and the same on my gain. I might explode near by squirrels if I did ! |

The band tried 4 or 5 different covers last practice, and I really like the energy on this one. Almost all root notes.
Sure is different from Skynrd. http://soundcloud.com/mamasan-band/1...-mother-mother

Reminds me of a story. When I was in my teens my mother was trying to tell this fellow how to play "Wildwood Flower" and he responded with, "I'm sorry Mrs. Harman; there ain't no minors on this here guitar!"

| | Hell on heels | | Join Date: Jan 2010 Location: Near Orlando FL | | | So - about Wednesday's audition. I'm not really sure how it went. Officially, it was my first audition. Late Monday night, the BL emailed me two songs to put on the audition list. He'd asked me for stuff I could play (which I sent last week) and said we'd work from there.
Got to the audition, set up my gear, and he says, "I didn't know anything on your list, so we'll just do other stuff tonight." ::Begin panic attack::
He leads off with one of the two songs he sent me Monday, but he plays it entirely different than any recording I was able to find, then he grumbled because I wasn't playing it his way. ::Count to 100 under my breath::
"Okay," I say, "Show me what you want and I'll go with it." We get through that song and he says, "You're gonna have to play more notes than you do. Do things like this {demonstrates an interesting and complex guitar riff}."
So we roll on to the second song - again - he has an entirely different arrangement and wants the bass played differently than anything I've heard. Cool - I roll with it. ::Swallow hard about 20 times a minute and bite my tongue a lot::
Three hours, 11 songs I've never heard or played before (including 3 originals) and the "audition" wraps up. He says to me, "I was really looking for a bit flashier player than you are. You're really technical. More than my best student. That's a compliment in case you can't recognize one. But my drummer loves you, so take these home and work on them and maybe come play with us again one of these days before too long."
"THESE" were two sheets of paper crammed with song lists.
So - I loaded up all the gear, headed for home, and now I'm prepping for the Sunday audition of a lead guitar/vocalist for my band.

So I just laid my Streamliner 900 on the stage and ran a 30 ft Speakon cord to the front where I put my Schroeder 212, a 4-ohm cab I really like. I used effects-send out of the Streamliner to run a Genz Benz Shuttle as a monitor back by me and the drummer, and also used the Streamliner's DI to go into the mains. To have tried to blast that room from the back line would have put sound levels at my ears that would have been difficult in terms of all the four-part harmony etc we do, as well as harmonica which I play a lot simultaneously.
I love big bass rigs, I'm just not sold that they are the most practical approach anymore for a lot of gigs. But the 2-15s approach is definitely cool. I would like to see where that goes. You're doing these yourself?

I try all kinds of stuff - some works out, some doesn't. but even the efforts that don't work out are often great learning experiences. (not always, but mostly.)
oh, and I miss you.

You're doing these yourself? | I really don't like when I have to be too loud on stage. Great room there at Vassar. For the 2x15 cab, I'll build it from some 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch birch. I'm not in a crazy rush but excited about the possibility. I'll basically scale up a D10BX-D. Of course with life things can get busy very quickly so I may not build it till after the holidays.
How was the Vassar gig btw? Great solution for your sound too. I usually think of my rig as a monitor when we have good sound reinforcement. When we don't it has to be a brutal monster. |

Large room or outdoors Big Rig situations the guitar player runs in stereo, with an amp on either side of the stage. I put an extension cab on the other side of the drums, so the 6 stringer and I can hear each other over our respective rigs of doom. |

Don't ever say that over in one of the Amp or Live Sound forums!
But we're a lot more accepting over here!

Go to go build more deer fences before it gets dark.
May go to an OM tonight, if it was now, I wouldn't have the energy. Mrs.TG wanted a cab next to the sink painted and insisted on oil paint, I did 2 coats of shellac sealer, and the oil paint went on yesterday morning. I woke up at 4:30 AM with a massive headache even though I had 2 exhaust fans on. Tired
Groggy
But I'm ok for now.

I used to use oil paints all of the time. (Which may explain a lot of things about me.)
The last time that I used oil paints I had the same reaction. It makes you wonder if the formulas changed to something even worse for you... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
