yeah, thanks for posting that. Danelectro was the main one during my era:

"One of the best-known Silvertone offerings is the Danelectro Silvertone 1448, made in the early to mid-1960s. The guitar's case had a small built-in amplifier and the guitar itself had a very short-scale 18-fret neck, which proved popular with beginners."

I had forgotten about the case with the built-in amplifier. How funny is that ...

I loved those old Hagstrom's. I still have a booklet from the 60's that had their whole line, I SO wanted one and SO could not afford it.

Thanks for the other supporting comments guys, I appreciate it!

But remember, back then you could buy a brand new Volkswagen "Beetle" for $1900.00. 16oz soda for a dime. Carton of Camels for $1.90

I just responded to two ads on CL that are looking for bassists. They are both metal bands that do originals and one claims to be LOUD LOUD LOUD. I think I need professional help..

I just listed 4 basses and an acoustic 12 string on the local CL. Doesn't mean they'll go but if they do I promise not to be sad. They build new ones every day and I am pretty hooked on my MapleGlo Ric which is not listed.

I'm gonna guess that a Sterling is among those.

Correct DT. It's OK but I on't see it becoming a regular player so why hold onto it?

You gave it a shot, it wasn't you, so no harm done.

That is right where I've been for the past few years .... I have my main basses, all of which serve a specific purpose and other than those, I've ditched all the rest. The only bass I still own that really doesn't have an "everyday" purpose is the fretted 7, which is currently wall art. If the used market wasn't so soft right now I would have sold it a long time ago. For now, I'm keeping it and maybe a potential trade for a fretless 7 will crop up.

I've reached the point where basses must be giggable or I don't keep them. I have a DB, a Barker 6 string, an FBB 6 string slab, a one-off 8 string (single course), & a 30" scale semi-hollowbody, all of which are fretless. I also have a parts P bass that is fretted which I use for teaching and the FBB fretted 7. I stopped using fretted basses a couple of years back and see no need for them in the future (expect for the classes). I also have a cello, but that doesn't count towards the bass total

But I agree, if any bass goes out the door, no tears will be shed. I only protect the Barker, FBB 6 and DB, which are all truly my main players ....

I find myself in a similar situation, Ed. Sold my last fretted bass a few months ago. I use an Azola Bug Bass for "upright" apps; three fretless Birdsongs (two 4's and a 5) with different woods and pups, a fretless Franken P with a Bill Lawrence pup and a Warwick Corvette Std fretless 5...

I really like the Azola's in general, but I have a hard time playing it because of the size of the body. The only "electrified" uprights I feel comfortable on are the Baby Bass or an Eminence ... at least they have a little meat to lean up against. The Barker is just a bass guitar turned vertical with a chambered body, but no arco capabilities. I get away with it in most jazz settings because it looks "upright" enough to the audience and the tone is staggeringly good.

But I miss the DB neck length and the bowing abilities. I've only used an Eminence a few times so I'm not sure how cool it would be in the long run, and the Baby Bass is really more of a percussive thing than a good jazz bass.

The gig at the Hard Rock last night was everything that we hoped that it would be. I only have one photo so far...

wow, a lot of love on the fretless side!

I should sell at least one or two basses. I have a Joe Veillette fretless five that is a remarkable instrument but it just doesn't fit into anything I play with others. I'm not using my '62 RI Jazz, but I would have a hard time emotionally parting with that. I'm actually thinking of giving it to the daughter of my close friend who (the daughter) is going off to college in the fall. She's a pretty good guitar player - if she switched to bass, which I am going to encourage her to do, she would never lack for gigs. (She's also very beautiful and an amazing human being.) The other candidate is my fretless Sterling, but I'm thinking of turning that into a Red Mitchell bass with C-G-D-A tuning (cello but an octave down). Completely crazy project but one I hope to get to.

Very cool, Chuck! I find there is so much less neck dive w/o the frets...

The MusicMan is free to go. The JetGlo Ric I can also part with easily. My Aerodyne P/J is absolutely gorgeous to look at but I just don't play it much even though it is so amazingly light. If those 3 went I'd pull the Geddy Lee J down as it was my first and I am a bit attached to it. But even then the Geddy will only go if I get a solid price for it. The other ones would serve me better right now as cash in the bank (or rather paying down some bills).
