You have to play the cards you are dealt; there is always a reason behind each card...sometimes it is a debt to be paid, always a lesson to be learned. To bail out is to simply temporarily evade the inevitable. But having said that I can think of no other gathering of strong souls I would want in my corner than ya'll. Thank you.

Derrick | This community really is something for the support it gives everyone through the good and the tough times. Who would have expected to find this kind of a thread on TalkBass.
Very special & caring people.

He's doing very well with college classes and managing life better all the time. He's still no where near being able to be on his own, which is hard to accept, but luckily has never tried to harm himself.
{{hugs}} for both of you and your kids, AS is a hard thing to deal with.

| | This Pig Flies Moderator | | Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Warwick, Rhode Island, USA | | | Holy crap. Looks like we all took a left turn into personal hell this year. My year was one of the most difficult I have faced, but I muddled through. I am hoping 2013 will be a bit better for all of us. Without the music, and the support of my bass playing babes and brothers I would be in a very dark place indeed. So my thanks as well for the support and friendship.
In other less depressing news one of my old drummers invited me back for a second jam last night with a guy from Central Mass whose band imploded, homeless guitar plyer on horse, bassist was... umm... doing the same thing Bob Weston was doing to Mick Fleetwoods wife, so all three split and he is the sole trustee of the collapsed band. At the same time he is divorcing his wife, or vice versa, I didn't get into it too far. And he's ex AA. So I show up and RoneeDee, the guitarist I separated from is there too. I have no problem with him though.
Anyway, Big D, the single band member says he has cancelled 12 gigs for 2013 so far, and he's apparently eyeing us as a replacement rhythm section. The gigs are a pretty far hike for me and I don't bite on the concept.
At the same time, the drummer had bought a big bottle of B and B and Big D is pounding the stuff down. By the second hour he was as well done as saviche in lime juice. And, his performance and discipline went right down the toilet. Pretty sad really. He had a friend with him that wanted to leave at 10:30 and Big D kept saying 'one more'. My friend Roneedee had left to see Robby Krieger of the Doors paly at the Met Cafe locally after our first set.
I packed up, and then came back and worked on my singing. Then finally, I did everyone a favor and shut off the guys amp. I insisted his friend drive home as Big D was trashed.
Actually, I am glad I saw all that, because I don't need any more dysfunctional band drama in my life. I like the guy and he is a good frontman and rhythm guitarist when he is sober, but I won't do a stage gig with him unless he commits to shape up. Just too embarrassing.
Tonight is a repeat of last weeks super jam, with a drummer hopefully, though I haven't heard from him yet. Something to look forward to anyway.

The only saving grace of Christmas tunes is that they have a short cycle each year. But at the age of 61, I'm pretty much tired of all of them by now ....
All kidding aside, don't let the stresses of the Season wear you down, especially those of you with little shorties running around the house |

Sometimes from sorrow, for no reason,
you sing. For no reason, you accept
the way of being lost, cutting loose from
all else and electing a world
where you go where you want to.
Arbitrary, sound comes, a reminder
that a steady center is holding
all else. If you listen, that sound
will tell you where it is, and you
can slide your way past trouble.
Certain twisted monsters
always bar the path - but that's when
you get going best, glad to be
lost, learning how real it is
here on earth, again and again.
For those of you having a rough time, I am hoping for a little bit of joy and comfort to find you in the midst of the struggle.
Like a few of you, I also have a child with autism - and like so many of you, have also dealt with some hardship and loss this year. I am thankful to have gotten through it (mostly) sane and intact, and especially thankful for all the great people in my life - both from CWB and elsewhere - who make it all worthwhile.
Love and hugs to all the CWB and MoCWB out there, and especially to those having a hard time right now.

| | This Pig Flies Moderator | | Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Warwick, Rhode Island, USA | | | Thanks PA, that's sweet.
I learned something very important this year. (Well, a few things come to mind actually.)
I learned that a redneck, beer swilling, bike riding mountain man from W. VA can quote Shakespeare. Actually, one of my favorite Shakespeare scenes ever.
I learned that the most intense way to experience alcohol poisoning would be to go drinking with PA and FM.
I learned that the epicenter of the low frequency universe seems to coincide with wherever Tat is.
I learned that our drummer has color coded all the pipes in his house by function, and that a queen bed is not large enough to show his cymbal collection.
I learned about a great source for hockey stick tape, should I ever learn to skate backwards or anything.
I found some guys that could help me restore the motorcycle I would like to restore, supposing I can get that one by Mrs. Thunder God.
I was truly touched by Pointbass' story about how grateful people were for the gift of music and how they insisted, though they had virtually nothing left, to give them something for the efforts. Also, I was pleased at the graceful and tactful way he handled that, to accept a gift gracefully is difficult but refusing can insult people who feel the need to give back. So it was a win all around.
I learned that while we all have a lot of problems and issues, there is no lack of support here should you need it and choose to accept it. I don't know of many places, groups or forums that are like that. Many exist to argue and insult and bully over the internet, and this experience is so diametrically opposed that it stands as a great example of how people can collectively help each other when needed.
I learned a lot more, but if I keep this up my mascara will run.

I've actually had a somewhat decent year. I sure hope next year is good to me as well as all of you. |

My neighbor finished her workout last week, sat down and died from an aneurism. She was a delightful person with a gentle soul and always took time to say hi or ask about the girls. She was in excellent health. As a last gesture of kindness, she recently indicated her wish to be an organ donor.
Needless to say her husband is devastated. The neighborhood has been there for him like a big family. I talked with one of the neighbors that was very close w her and asked for a picture so I can surprise Dave with a portrait. I want him to know that we remember her. I'm hoping this small gesture will in some way help him.
Channeling all my good karma to guide my hand for this one.
I think of each one of you in your hard times and share your joys as well. This is a big family as well, we all happen to share an affinity for bass
Peace and happiness to you all, especially on the midst of so much sorrow today.

BG, if anything involving NY can be helpful to your situation, you know where to find me.
This Newtown CT thing is just too much. We know the town as we used to rent for the summers in that area.
On a positive note, both bands going well, and all I've been suffering from musically is a lack of jazz gigs or even jams. Today, after a year's hiatus, a *really good* jazz piano player over in the Woodstock area called and said he'd like me to sideman on upright for a series of jazz gigs in Woodstock and environs. So hopefully that will work out. I'll add he's the only one who's offered me a toke in the last 30 years or so - which I declined on that particular day because of my driving schedule, but who knows, if this gig thing works out.
