He remembered their birthdays more often than I did, knew about events in their lives before I did and shared funny comments they had made. I finally just felt like I was missing out on too much.

Yes, you have to wade through the inane, dramatic, boring, and incendiary - but I find it to be worth it in the end. Great way to share pics and info. with people far away. Lots of great humor there to make you smile, especially if you "friend" Tat and FM! Plus you can "ignore" people who are driving you crazy (say, with never-ending political rants) so you don't even see their posts.

Musically, it really helps me stay connected as well. My current band saw me at a Sonic Cherry gig a long time ago. When they were looking for a bass player, they asked around about my name, and found me through facebook. If it weren't for FB, they probably never would have been able to contact me. I have been using it a lot to comminicate with singers also during the search and audition process my band is currently undergoing.

It's a tool - like anything, all in how you use it.

Come and find me on FB - do a search for Charity Detrick in Ohio. And welcome to the dark side.
I have to agree with you about not wanting to know what everyone else is doing every day...occasionally dinner pics are cool, because I like to cook, and I want recipes.

I looked up a few people I knew from high school. Found my first love (not looking so good to me now), then realized that if I really wanted to stay in touch with these people I would have.

C3, how did the acoustic gig go?

DT, happy Marine Bday. I wasn't in the service but I appreciate and respect the contribution our service members make on our behalf. Sounds like you should fire off 237 rounds. I would if the range was open

Thor, thanks for the great links. They always bring back good memories.

FM, where are you girl?

J, I share your sentiments. This a great collection of people that are genuinely wonderful. It's the only reason I come to this site anymore.
Awww, thanks.

Mr Thor,

I am a Jeff Beck aholic. I saw him with two older siblings when I was SIX years old. It was a Yardbirds show and I thought that the guitartist was unbelievable. (He was and is...) I've followed his career all the way up to the present.

Mick Waller... sigh. I listened to Mr Waller's playing so much as I was learning drums, my guitarist brother used to introduce me in the band as Mick Waller. His chugga-chugga version of a shuffle is a little different than anyone else's and I adopted it as my own. When he did a roll he would start out slow and half way around the kit kick it into hyper-drive. Or it would start out slow and rambling and finish at warp speed. My brother once said that his rolls sounded like you kicked his drumset down a staircase and the kit lands at the bottom on one. When I started playing all of those years ago I never intended on copying Mick Waller, it just happened. If you like his playing, you'd get a kick out of my drumming.

He's incredibly shy and I've never heard him say a bad word about anyone, just one of those nice guy's people like being around and playing some music with. The only family he has left is the guys in our band.

While we're all pulling for him and helping anyway we can, I'd appreciate if our little CWB community could say a prayer/think positive thoughts for a really nice guy by the name of Johnny Goshulak.

Thanks
Special Blender
I believe in the power of prayer Mr Blender. My prayers are with Johnny G for sure. Let him know that the bassist (and drummer) community is pulling for him.

My Angry Birds Combo is so named because an Army friend of mine bought it for me for my birthday while he was deployed. His unit handle is Angry Birds.
He knew I needed it and didn't have the money saved up yet and when he saw this one on MF as "damaged in shipment" for 1/3 the price he decided i needed to be spoiled. The Angry Bird dogtag covers the crack in the grill and was put there the first time the amp played out because he could not be there to see us play.

The skanky pics with it are available via PM :-)

The Teenager did myspace when he was that age, i saw no issues at all and when he made a facebook page a few years later i saw no reason to keep tabs on him. He's 18.5 now so it's not my business what he does anyway.

I use FB to actually feel like i have friends and stay close to people, i dont really have friends IRL and i find it really hard to make friends because most people won't take the time to see past my oddness and awkwardness to see who i really am. Right now, i don't actually have any friends who live here and i can just hang out and have a beer and BS with that aren't in my band (and i don't really hang with them too much beyond band stuff).

Besides, i like FB because i can hide behind the awkwardness and just be weird.
We think that you are "just right" JammE.

I'm just weird. I'm more reserved on the internet. Tat and FM met me in person and I'm sure that they will agree that I'm much crazier in person.

I am looking at stripper poles for the Bass-ment folks!

I had a two-fer this afternoon!

(Get your minds out of the gutter.)

I stopped in a potential venue and ended up getting both bands booked.

He's a very cool friend,

It was a total surprise, i had shown him the amp when he was home on mid-tour leave. I had no idea he even looked at the link the first time, let alone remembered it, or when my Bday was. The box arrived at my job while i was off on vacation (at home cause the FIL was visiting). My boss called to ask if i was expecting a package and i told him, yeah something little i'd ordered off Amazon and he told me it weighed 50lbs. (Because i work in radio suspicious packages are something my boss watches for) It took me a minute before i asked if the box said "GK" on it.

Then when friend came online that night i told him i was going to kill him :-)

I played it at work for a week until hubby was out of town for the weekend before i brought it home. Hence the drunk redhead with the amp pics :-)

the problem is that I am a fairly private person. I do not feel the need to check in every 10 minutes. I have no desire to tag every photo of myself or everyone I know. I am not going to twit or tweet or whatever it is, and tell everyone where I am, every moment of every day. If you really know me, you know exactly where I am, most days. I am in the shop. It is pretty simple.

I am being told that I don't "get it"... can someone explain this elusive by apparently very definitive "It" that I am supposed to be getting
Nothing that hasn't already been said, but Face Book is the best form of free advertising there is. If I "Like" one of your pictures, however many friends I have then see that picture. Say 10 of them like it. Then each of their friends sees it. In a matter of hours, you've had your work seen by 1000's of people. It is the place to be seen.

Oddness and awkwardness is celebrated here, so welcome to the family. One of my favorite FB memes is just a sign that says, "I don't need to flirt. I will seduce you with my awkwardness."

And don't worry, we have ways of invading your real life too.

Also, if you're near Seattle, you need to check out The Nasty Habits...shout out T-Bird 1958...we haven't heard from you and your sexy stems in ages. WTH? Don't you love us anymore?
