Mr Bagger, I could never get the link to work. I finally went to Reverbnation and just searched Aries Rising.

Wow, just freaking wow. I love yours and the guitarist's playing in particular.

Tat, Beautiful. Can't wait til it's finished and we can see how it looks (and sounds) on you.

MB, Insanely impressive playing, as usual - and even more so considering the condition of your fingers at the time. I'd have needed far more than Advil and caffeine for sure!

Enjoyed the songs, MB. Years ago a band I was in had the honor of playing warm-up for two shows with the Dixie Dregs. You would have enjoyed watching Andy West interact with Steve Morse. I see Morse is listed as one of your guitar players influences.

Of course you have to expect that her "Tat-ness" would pick out some great wood...

PA, thanks for the kind words. I was thinking of all you guys when we recorded and didn't want to let crazy fingers get in the way !

Crow, I remember listening to the Dixie Dregs a few times. Really enjoyed their playing. Since I'm a self taught ear player, I do my best to listen and be in the moment with my bandmates. For me, the dialogue between the players tells the story more than the parts of the song could. Thanks for taking a listen to the tunes.

Some really great playing, Mr Bagger. Nice production, too. Very full sound for three midwestern boys.

Thanks Mike. Scot the guitar player takes a lot of time to craft his sound. It's so fun to play w these guys because I can lay a crazy weird groove and the two of them will find ways both melodically and rhythmically to enhance the groove so nicely

A nice bass player story.

As mentioned I was selling my Aerodyne bass. Had it on Craigslist and got an inquiry from an interested party. We settled on a price and he called up to say he was coming to see it and would buy it if he was happy. He liked and handed me a stack of brand new $20's . The price we agreed was not divisible by 20 so I was going to get him change. He said don't worry about it and I saw him off before I counted the money.

I counted and then recounted. It was actually 1 $20 bill short. I recounted again because they were brand new I thought maybe 1 was stuck to another. Nope. Short $20 or in fact $10 from the agreed price. Meh, no big deal in the big picture and I figured it to be an honest mistake. He lives a solid hour drive away and the $10 wasn't worth the effort so I was going to let it go.

Later that night I get an email from the buyer. "Umm, was the money $20 short? I just stopped at a convenience store and there should have only been $40 in my wallet and there was $60." I said yes it was but no big deal. Told him that I'll come see his band play sometime and he can buy me a beer and call it even.

Well in today's mail there is an envelope from a name that I did not recognize. Open it and wrapped in a few sheets of paper is a $20 bill with a note that said "The missing bill!".

Sent him an email to say it was not necessary but thanks nonetheless.

You're a good man Tommi and I appreciate your integrity even though it was only a couple of bucks in the big picture. The world needs people like that.

I talked to Steve Morse several times and it is my understanding (but I cannot verify this) that he wrote all the parts to all the songs. Most of the original members were students at the University of Miami School of Music. I heard them live four times shortly after the "What If" album and they played each note of each song exactly as if they were reading parts. When you heard them they sounded exactly like the album.

While the music I was playing professionally was not anywhere as close to the complexity of "the Dregs" the band I was with choreographed the entire show. Everything from jokes, to intros was rehearsed. Our songs were originals so by the time we wrote, arranged, rehearsed and promoted our material we had played these songs thousands of times. I kept myself from getting complacent by trying to play each note, each tone, each nuance of sound exactly the same way with each performance. That disciple paid dividends in the studio.

This does not mean we did not "jam" or were limited in creativity; it is just that our shows were often done under time constraints (like TV or showcases). Usually when we had extended moments in concert we had audio "keys" which let everyone in the band know when to hit the "re-entries". I hope I am making sense in this explanation.

For you guys chatting up the Dixie Dregs, you may or may not know that Dave LaRue is associated with Bass Central, here in Orlando. He's an interesting guy.

La Rue is an amazing player; loved his work with Satriani.. Andy West is presently Director of Software Architecture at Pearson (plus music projects with the drummer Morganstein from the Dregs)
