I trust you all had a nice Christmas. At least I hope all of you did.

No incoming or outgoing equipment for me at this time, I have my dream stuff (finally), and I'm perfectly equipped for everything I need to do.

Band is going well but is faced with a tremendous challenge right now. We are booked for shows in February and March, and more throughout the spring, but unfortunately our singer left the group. So I've been filling in on some vocals while we look for a new singer. We have a handful of people lined up to audition, but they'll have some work to do if they want to be ready for February.

We basically had built our sound around our old singer. He was really good, but some personal issues came up and he needed to take a break for a while. We will miss him, but we all understood why he needed to step away.

I was also offered a job in two other bands. One was an established country/southern rock band who needed to replace their bassist, one of the members had seen me play, and the other was a startup 80's cover band. I know the drummer and he recommended me to the group. I turned both down, respectfully, as I am in no position to dedicate any more time away from my family than I already am with Golden Road.

Anyway........nice to see everyone again!!!!
That's too bad about your singer having to put it on the shelf for now but the good news is an opportunity presents itself for you to step up front vocally.

If I remember correctly the opportunity to play in your country band was something you weren't sure about as you hadn't really played much country before. The fact another band in the same genre has approached you to join them is a testament to how well you've adapted to a new style. Congratulations BSB

Hi folks! We just rolled into Pittsburgh. I apologize for going off the grid. For the past couple of days I was having an issue where I was unable to sign in to TB from Jackie's parent's computer.

Anyway, we are home safe and I'm exhausted.

huh, I've been told before that I have brass nuts, but never in this context. here is a close-up of that bass, you can judge for yourself on the nut. it's always had the red tort guard, though, at least when I got it and since. It's a 1978.

Mike, I hope you get to chill out for the rest of the holiday season - well deserved - and wish you the best for 2013.

Yeah, it was something different. Thanks!!! Actually, I'm having a blast and listening to music that I (in the past) would have written off or thought was a waste of time.

Our singer, when he left, told me that I was his favorite in the group. Not trying to brag, but he told me that he thought I adapted well and learned quickly, so I feel pretty good about the work I've done. I've learned a lot with a ton of help from the others and I think I'm going to continue with the Country music because it's a lot of fun. But, again, I'm in with a great group of players who are really helpful and very friendly.

I really feel a little overwhelmed that another band approached me. I don't think I'm all that good, so it was a surprise. But it was nice to get another offer!

I object! The MoCWB should be given notice and an opportunity to buy plane tickets. In the meantime, here's to the wholly/unholy trinity:

Um...we did give notice about 2 weeks ago. It was just very subtle notice.

It was the same for me when I moved here 32 years ago, virtually never listened to country and my first decent band was nothing but country. Since then its been mostly country/bluegrass, the odd bit of blues and 60's style rock.

I started playing in a side project with a 3 piece doing strictly rock from the 70's to today and it exposed me to a lot of music I've been listening to but never thought I'd be playing (doesn't fit the rooms I work in). The drummer from that project asked me if I was interested in jamming with a buddy of his that does some originals along with some Zep, ACDC, Stone Temple Pilots etc. which is harder edged than my trio. That project is just for jamming, they know I'm committed elsewhere but I'm having fun showing these young bucks (they're 25 years younger than me) that us old farts do know how to rock.

Thanks for the close up shot. I was mistaken.

We are home from spending Christmas in Virginia with Jackie's parents.

Her dad knows our names but is no longer able to hold a thought or have a conversation. He kept asking when they were going to go back to Richmond although we were sitting in the kitchen of the house in Richmond that they have lived in for over 25 years.

It's very sad and tough to watch. Jackie's mom is very frail, taking care of him is taking a toll on her. We have a place for them to move into in Pittsburgh, it's a retirement home that they already tried out and liked. It's not a finacial issue. Jackie's mom is dragging her feet as she doesn't want to deal with finding new doctors, etc...

Tat you should know that MoCWB need (and probably like and beg for more) to be hit over the head. Subtle may cause confusion and disappointment!

Was it you that had to run out and buy boots and a hat for a photo shoot right after you joined?
