It should be no secret that I've have enough of 2012, I'm ready for a new year.

This coming year I'm looking to:

- Enjoy myself and my time with Jackie, my friends and family more as if nothing else I've learned the importance of this,

- Take better care of this beat up old body,

- Continue my bass studies,

- Get back to playing drums in a working band,

- Start playing in a band as a bassist,

- Continue to build of the successes that I've had with Feral and GRR,

- Record a second GRR album,

- Maybe go back to the working world.

How about you folks

I'm not much for resolutions, but setting goals is always a good thing. For me, however..

- Work on becoming a better bassist

- Gigs! Want to play out often this coming year.

- Aspire to a better fitness level. I go to the gym on a regular
basis, but if I am not going to the gym, I become a lazy slug.

This coming year, I'm thinking of resolving not to cook or eat any animal or plant on the IUCN red list. Should be an easy one.

I forgot about that one. I only did ONE track day last year. I freaking love track days, as it's pretty much the only place where one can push their bike and themselves to their limits without risking a hefty ticket and/or jail time, and it's also the safest!

I have a few things I'd like to do differently in 2013;

1. Dedicate more time to my son, and I am going to spend a lot of time considering/exploring alternative education for him because the public school setting is just not working.

2. Hoping to change careers. My goal is to be able to use my experience raising an autistic child to help other families with their struggles if they are doing the same. I have learned a lot the hard way and have discovered that getting help when you have an autistic child is difficult unless their condition is severe. If I can help one father out there avoid the mistakes I've made.....

3. Lose a couple pounds. Not a lot. Usually I run right about 190-ish, but hovering around 210-215 is not good for me.

4. Help my wife work toward her life's dream, which is opening her own Yoga studio. She recently graduated with her RYT certificate and she's nervous about starting her own school, but I want to take time to see how we can do this financially. She's worth it.

5. Add a second Carvin BR-115 to my bass rig...

6. Work more with my band to find good gigs to play. Actually, I'd enjoy doing shows for different charities. We are already signed to do a show for the Wounded Warrior Project, and honestly I'd rather play for a good cause than a room full of drunks for short money.

Just some of my goals. I'm hoping 2013 is better than 2012 and I can get out of this rut I've been in for far too long.

Taking better care of myself is at the top of my list. Tired of being modestly overweight. Time to fix that.

I also want to reduce our personal debt level (hence the sale off idle gear). It's probably not dangerous but it could be better.

I would like to have more time to play, both jamming and gigging.

Finally I want to improve my golf game.

Have three more songs to learn this week for my acoustic/electric duo/trio project:

"Brass Buttons" - Lemonhead rendition (nice bass part)
"Fast Cars" - Tracy Chapman (adding a nice harmony line to the chorus)
"Wild Horses" - Stones

Learned a song with an interesting bass part for this group a while back called "Stay (I missed you)" by Lisa Loeb. The bass part repeats sections but the song never truly repeats itself. Here it is for your listening pleasure:

Those are some great goals!

I've been hovering around the 200 lb mark for the last year. I'm only 5'6". I'm built like a fire plug..I guess it goes with the territory.

I want to use the Rosetta Stone program to learn Spanish, I want to get further along in my bass studies before I take this up.

And we do have to meet one of these days Mr Crow.

U-Haul was the Wounded Warrier project's first major sponsor. I had the privilege to work closely with them in DC and NY before my retirement. It is a great organization.

Take the Latin American Spanish and we can practice together. I'm taking that this year.

Happy New Year Folks!

I'm just starting to feel human at eight PM. My body feels like I spent New Years Eve partying with the ladies of CWB. I wouldn't quite call it alcohol poisoning, but I um... took the edge off last night.

brings to mind an old joke involving the line "I'm Thor."

(not our Thor, just the Thor in the joke.)

I know it's a little late in the season for more Christmas music, but check out this video from a young bassist (and multi-instrumentalist) named Jacob Collier, doing "I Saw Three Ships." As someone who also plays some keyboards and mandolin, I dug it, and I hope Drummer will too (for reasons that will become clear).

I absolutely dug it.

I love checking out the technique of others on cajon.

Paul (from GRR) wrote a song for the next album which is about boxing.

The arrangement that we've worked out live involves cajon, pandiero and bass drum. The feel that I came up with for the bass drum Paul describes as a "war drum". I want to add a snare drum for ihe intro on the studio version doing a "military march" way back in the mix.
