DA ZEN OF BASS PLAYING

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently had an epiphany regarding my bass playing, now let it be known, if not already, I am a slow learner, painstakingly so, and the bass is no exception.

My epiphany was… I am… the Bass. I am the bass, all the sound, the beat is me, I could use a rubberband and a stick to produce it

Now, the manner I choose to express my inner-BASS becomes one of wood, electronics, strings and amplification, finger dexterity the easy or hard part depending…

Depending on what YOU think that BASS should sound like

Until then, be the Bass, You R the Bass. I am THE BASS

I am the bass too!!!

Ok, those other guys are not getting your drift.
You are saying bass is a state of mind.

Bass is more than a chunk of wood with wires and knobs. Bass is the support for the rest of the music. Bass is an attitude.

Just this morning I was sitting here at my desk at work absent mindedly holding the end of a piece of string to my ear and plucking it, hitting notes below the low B on my 5 string. It was good.

I've played gigs with a three piece band where I did some songs on my stage piano, doing the bass parts with my left hand- so bass is not even necessarily the aforementioned chunk of wood.

Shoot, that old band the Bad Livers was a two piece - upright bass and banjo, sometimes the bass player played tuba- what the hey? Its still bass!

I have to admit your message reads like you've been smokin funny ciggarettes.

have you read 'Zen Guitar'? My instructor reads it once a year and it's highly recommended by Anthony Wellington.... Just got into it and it has helped me focus on my playing.
