I was talking to Jackyl's bass player (Tom Batini) backstage at one of their concerts in Nashville and noticed his strap was held together with a dry-wall scew--
I asked him what the heck that was all about..and he said "That means SCREW YOU!"
We both laughed our asses off.

I've never laughed but I have rolled my eyes at them a few times. Some of them are just plain stupid looking.

Lol back in highschool I had a padded strap with a red dragon print on it...totally lame, but it had a pad...man I wish I had the fashion sense not to wear that stupid thing.

Ohh and once I saw a some metal band back in the day and the guy had duct tapped (like half a roll) an industrial grad, super thick, metal chain to his guitar and used it as a strap. It looked bad-a** but couldn't have been comfy or convenient.

I think those studded ones like the emo belts are ridiculous, but I can't really say I've ever laughed at one.

Oh, there was one time I saw a really big guy with a pink hello kitty strap on one of those spiky Deans. I laughed at that one, but something tells me that might have been the idea.

Don't know who he is, but I remember reading bout him. He was originally a violin player so the progression to bass meant him playing like that. He isn't half bad either.

when I got my third bass, I ran out to Walmart to get some stuff, and picked up one of those dumb First Act ones b/c it was cheap vinyl ones b/c I was strapped for cash. The thing was so darn stiff, it looked "folded" on me-where it was folded up in it's package, so I ended up buying one later at a music store with "Bad Girl" written on it, and put it on my main bass and put a Fender one on the "newer" bass. I ended up giving that stiff strap to my 8 year old for her toy electric guitar (the guitar really works). And I think it is aggravating her b/c not only it looks "folded" it is toooo big! Anyways, I don't know what I was thinking. I would of been embarrassed with something that says "First Act" on it!

That's Quentin Berry.
He's from around here.
IIRC, he was not 'originally a violinist'...he was given a bass at a young age with no strap (IIRC) & thus did what he hadda do in order to hold it up & play.

The guitarist in my band uses a rainbow-striped strap. He didn't realize what the rainbow symbolizes (gay pride), so he wore it proudly (nothing intended) at every gig. Someone once pulled him aside & educated him about the rainbow, but he still wears it. He isnt gay - I guess he just likes the strap!
