Cheaper if you buy sounds. If I have two instruments with very similar voices, or one with a lame voice, I let 'em go. This way I do not own dozens of basses or guitars. I can pull out most bass voices in less than half a dozen, same with guitar.

Note that I only own 4 string basses...

Mostly my gig money does pay for gear, as well as other gear I may sell to get something else. I also grabbed a 5 gallon water bottle (the kind that go to water coolers) and everyday I put my spare change in it. You'd be surprised at how much change you can accumulate. When it fills, thats GAS money. I know a couple that went on vacation from a filled bottle.

We have one of those bottles, going to fund a family vacation when it fills.

Havent gigged in 8 years, first one coming up on May 17th.

Have a partner and two kids.

Am saving, soooooo slowly to get a pair of Berg AE210s. You would not believe how long this is taking, but the rule is, pay up front for everything, gig money goes half to the partner for the holiday fund, half to the GAS & gas fund.

Should work out fine (plenty more gigs lined up), I hope....

I could have a gig every night for the next 20,000 years and I still wouldn't have made enough to cover my gear.
