My Chemistry teacher beats the hell out of stuff all the time... Today he got pissed and punched his filing cabinet once and now the door is dented so badly he can no longer open the drawer at all. So yeah, a punch could easily fracture any bone. But this accident was not just from a skull break. My parents work in the hospital and get on to me for fighting because of the patients they see that are in the same position as this story where the punch was landed in just the right spot to ruin their life. A punch to the right spot of the back can cause you to become paralyzed. Fighting is way more dangerous than it seems. People are just lucky.

| For a time I have been practicing martial arts, and the golden rule is? AVOID fighting as much as possible, even if you have to run away. Only fight back if there is no other option left. So, yes, even people who know how to defend themselves avoid fighting at all because they KNOW fighting is way too dangerous and even the "victor" (so to speak) can leave badly injured.
